The Keepers
Structure
The Order of the Keepers is a militarized holy order, based in Calimshan but with branches and fortresses in several of the Dales and in Damara. At the head of its structure are the 6 Judges, led by a Grand Judge. Under them, small forts or chapters of the Keepers are led by a Overseer. Below them, there are several lesser roles, depending on the role they fill (Confessor, Lawmage, Archpriest). Below those roles are (in descending order), Adept, Acolyte, and Novice.
Grand Judge and Judges - These Judges serve as the ruling authority of the Keepers, dictating its policies, ideals, and leading troops into major offensives. These Judges are usually high level Clerics, Paladins, or Oracles of Harrus or Ordum, although in the past, one of the Judges was a rogue. The Position of Judge was served for life, and Judges usually were scattered through Calimshan and beyond, orginizing efforts.
Overseer - Overseers relegate resources, plan troop and squad movements, and receive major orders from the Judges. They usually are found ruling over small fortresses or chapels aligned with the Keepers, where they oversee training of lower ranking members and assign them to squads.
Confessor - High tier Inquisitors serving the Keepers, they run intelligence and stealth type missions for the order. They are in charge of secret keeping, destruction of dangerous or heretical magical knowledge, and interrogating and transferring prisoners.
Lawmage - A specific order of Wizards, serving law and order. Usually graduates from the Arcane Lyceum, they specialize in Abjuration and Enchantment magic and tackle arcane threats to the order, specifically those of necromancers and dangerous outsiders.
Archpriest - Powerful clerics, they are considered the highest ranking of the Lesser Three, despite technically having no specific ranking above the others. They run specifically religious matters, such as leading masses, healing, and communing with gods.
Culture
As part of their duties the Keepers remained vigilant against any potential threats to Calimshan, standing ready to stop any aggression. When necessary, they investigated potential threats or secretive organizations, and watched over those creatures they saw as inherently evil. Keepers despised the undead, as was stated clearly in the understanding of their gods tenets. Despite their claim to goodness and righteousness, Keepers tended to be Lawful Neutral more than any other alignment. Although a small but strict few called themselves Harrusian Keepers and focused entirely on the goodness and righteousness taught in Harrus's faith rather than just upholding the laws and normalcy of Calimshan. This often caused significant disagreements within the organization and lead to many Keepers who held these views rarely becoming Judges.
Public Agenda
In practice, however, the Keepers serve as a magical and religious police force for Calimshan, as well as spreading their influence throughout other nations. Despite their godly claim of justice and righteousness, a great many Keepers could be incredibly overzealous in their persecution of justice and the law, often having their rulings tainted by the prejudices inherent in Calishite culture. These overzealous judgements often targeted tieflings and others with outsider blood, excluding aasimars, although individual Keepers would never admit such prejudices.
