Bastion Rules

1. Bastion Creation: Players are allowed to create Bastions for their characters, but this is optional and not mandatory.   2. Approval: All Bastions will be approved by the Dungeon Master prior to use in game.   3. New Characters at Higher Levels: When players create new characters that are higher than level 5, they will have the option to do the following.   3a. New Characters can use some, or all of their starting gold to buy additional features, rooms, etc for the bastions instead of magic, mundane, or other types of items.   3b. New characters can also use some, or all of their starting gold to pre-pay for filling rooms such as the Store Room as if they had previously ordered it.   Example: You create a character at level 9 and receives 650gp as his starting gold. He can now use some, or all of the gold to buy an additional room, or expand another room assuming he has enough gold to do so. He can also use some of that gold to put towards having gave orders to the Store House, or similar facility to have stocked up on goods.   4. Bastion Turns: Bastion turns will be taken every 7 "in-game" days as prompted by the Dungeon Master. The Dungeon Master can determine that more than one 7 day period has, or will pass and will prompt the players if this transpires.   5. Issuing Orders: When the DM prompts the players that a 7 day period has arrived the players can issue one order to their bastion providing they have a means of communicating to the bastion.   5a. A means of communication can involve the use of sending stones, providing the hirelings have the other stone, or a spell that allows similar communication. Use of messengers, or similar methods is not allowed.   5b. In our campaign, if the bastion does not recieve an order from the player character the hirelings will automatically conduct the maintain order.   6. Bastion Events: The DM will role on the events table when the maintain order is given and let the player know what event transpired. The DM will create a story that will be posted on the appropriate WA discussion board for the event.
If a player creates a Bastion use of the Official Bastion Tracking Sheet is mandatory.   Creating a Map of your Bastion is also mandatory although it does not have to be to scale. If it is not to scale each room has to be clearly marked with its size category. All Bastion maps have to have each room clearly labeled with the room type regardless of scale.

Fall of a Bastion

A player character can lose their Bastion in the following ways:   Divestiture. A character can give up their Bastion anytime, releasing the Bastion’s hirelings and abandoning the location. The divested Bastion is quickly vacated, is eventually looted, and might even be burned to the ground.   Neglect. If a character issues no orders to their Bastion for a number of consecutive Bastion turns equal to the character’s level (typically because the character is dead or otherwise out of commission), the hirelings abandon the Bastion and the site is eventually looted. If the character returns later, they can start a new Bastion, perhaps building it amid the ruins of the old one.   Ruination. Drawing the Ruin card from the Deck of Many Things (as described in chapter 7) instantly deprives a character of their Bastion. When such an event occurs, the player can decide what terrible fate befalls the Bastion. The Bastion might be sacked by enemies or destroyed by an earthquake, for example.   Regardless of how the Bastion falls, the player can work with the DM to establish a new Bastion and determine how it comes into being. Use the Special Facility Acquisition table to determine how many special facilities come with it. The new Bastion also starts with two basic facilities (one Cramped and one Roomy) of the player’s choice.
