Rite of Conscription

The rite of conscription details the process by which conscripts are chosen for the armies of Meplaes and the basic training every individual living on the continent receives.

History

Since the founding of Snowthain it has been necessary for the inhabitants of Meplaes to be conscripted into the armed forces. As such, when the armies of Meplaes, Meplaes Etherwatch Army, Meplaes Irongate Army, Meplaes Snowthain Army, Meplaes Steelgate Army, where organised at the gathering of four, it was decided to initiate the rite of conscription.   It is common for martially oriented families, those with multiple generations having served as high ranking members of the military, the enlist instead. This has generated an exception in the normal procedures and allows for individuals to become officiers upon entering the military instead.

Execution

In the early days of the month of blessings, early spring, any who are 17 years of age, are to gather at the academy located within their respective fortress city. There they are taken before a representative of the city's Councils and evaluated. Should an individual prove in sufficient health they are then subjected to a lottery, determining their conscription status. One in every three individuals finds themselves conscripted in this manner.   Once the conscripts have been determined and informed of their situations, training beings. This involves all individuals currently 17 and able to participate. The first three months involves the safe operation of Jamerson brand steamguns and the basic structure of the armed forces and its chain of command.   Upon conclusion of this three month period, individuals who were not conscripted are to return home and resume their lives. The remaining third is subjected to further training, focused on discipline and life in the fortress cities. This spans another three months.   Upon conclusion of this period, conscripts are randomly assigned to the armies of Meplaes and send to the corresponding fortress city. Here they spend another three months familiarizing themselves with the particulars of their duties there, unique for every city.

Enlisting

Any individual that enlisted will instead, after their sixth month of training, be given a choice of fortress city to go to, as well given the option to immediately move on to officier training, rather than be moved into active service. By enlisting, an individual exempts two of their sibling from the conscription process, if they have yet to go through the process.

Participants

Any individual 17 years of age is to participate in the rite of conscription.
