Ottokath's Journal #6
General Summary
Nature was thing around the mines and the smell of metals thick, Mutt was originally barred from entry as the now rotting corpse he had claimed in the ambush before disturbed the guards. Hamood, Mavis, the gnome and I went ahead, to be joined later by Mutt and Art. The guards were helpful enough to guide us through to Overseer Pretwick's office. Here we were forced to wait for two desperate hours. My mood was sour, something I seemed to share with Hamood. When the interfering party finally ended their meeting, we were displeased to see the Mayor of Northpoint exit the room. I can't say I was pleasant to him. He desired none of my manners, after all.
This prompted a minor coercion with the secretary who promptly informed us to wait an additional hour. The wait was over, as far as I was concerned.
Hamood barged to the door, struggling with the guards. Seeing this and hoping to impede them in such efforts, I unleashed to fines clawing at the bottom of the flooring. Vines wrapped around them and still the struggle continued. Mutt blocked the other door with his bulk, delaying reinforcements. The stalemate did not last. Failing to open the other door in time, Mutt was flung, yes, flung, back into the room, crashing into the far wall. Through stepped a man I could come to know as Commander Levitt, one of the more reasonable humans I have met.
The gnome panicked and flung a coin into the air. From it sprung a giant roc, hoisting him up into the air. I caught him disappearing North. As I too have such a coin, I took note of this event carefully. Rapidly we were arrested, but as we all seized our struggle as the door was breached, Levitt deigned to listen. It was through him we delivered the letter to the overseer and completed our task.
After clearing up the mess, we were permitted to return to the duke with news of our success. That is when it happened. An hour clear of the fort, we were caught in an ambush. The ambush that would change the course of our journey permanently.
