Ottokath's Journal #5 Report in Aragani | World Anvil

Ottokath's Journal #5

General Summary

Being an elf can be lonely. Being with Mutt for seven years made me realize that all the more. Night is experienced differently for us. 8 hours of sleep shaved of an already short lifespan. Tragic in a way. Yet were does that leave the elf? Alone for four hours, seeking greater truths behind lesser reasons. To that end even the voice in your own head can be your enemy. "What if I had done things differently?" The thought all too familiar. Yet I am glad to have met the giant. I found something there I feel I had lost. Something I could not find in the world around me. Yet still, a companion asleep for four hours, is no company for four hours. And yet now I found myself in the company of another elf.   I'd like to think I handled it well, but I fear I too easily fell back to old habits. The herbs I smoke dull the senses, eases the passage of time. Was there really need to indulge in such things with a companion so close at hand. It matters little now I suppose.   They asked me to teach them the ways of archery. I can't say the memory didn't hurt. Father used to teach me, using the bow he had made. Must be over a hundred years ago now. I decided on giving instruction. Might well have a companion capable of shooting what they aim at rather than Mutt, I supposed. To this end we needed arrows. They are hardly hard to come by. If you know what to look for, all you need is a forest. Twigs, leaves and a knife work wonders. And so my evening was spend. For the first time in a long time, I spend the night in the company of those that could appreciate the early night.   We returned to the baron the next day. First we were instructed to scout the Venatorii camp. As I am well suited for scouting in forested terrain, I took lead in this task, which we completed swiftly. We then returned with our report.   Fearing the worst, the duke told the human, Hamood, and by extention us, to inform the forces station at the Electrum Mines of the threat that we now faced. I can't help but worry. Against foes such as the Venatorii, a wrong move, a miststep could end us all quickly.   We decided to leave Moby at the tavern, lest they would get hurt on our travels and headed for the Electrum mines. After a minor skirmish with an advanced Venatorii scouting party, we found a fellow traveller on our path. A halfelf of eerie descent, going by the name of Artometae, or Art for short. As the travel was long, we spend the night with her on the road. Strength in numbers favoured us then. Yet a chill at the back of my spine would not seize. Something was very wrong and it would threaten us soon, yet I could not see it. Nor could the spirits that surround me. It would be quite the eventful day at the Electrum Mine.
