Ottokath's Journal #20

General Summary

I hate humans. I didn't think myself capable of hating an entire species. Yet here I am, bound up as a sacrifice to fey in the middle of a forest. Admittedly I don't hate all humans, as I have yet to mind Hamood's presence. The next human I meet, however, will not receive the benefit of my doubt. They shall be hostile in intent until proven otherwise. Those were the thought as I was being observed as a morsel to be consumed. My bindings were easily slipped, my form is malleable, after all, but the problem of the fey was still at hand. With me, just Hamood. And it is then that I was surprised from the most unlikely of places. Not only did Art rush to my aid, but she was accompanied by a human I barely knew. Our situation hardly improved, but I had reason to reevaluate my thoughts. Later. Now I had to argue why my "essence" ought belong to myself.   It was in the middle of this discussion that my ears were greeted by a familiar voice. From the portal stepped a companion I thought lost. With a weapon I had considered gone. Mavis, visibly older, stepped from the portal to our aid. My understanding of fey is... basic. I know their language and the gist of their demeanor. I fail to understand their motivations, however. Mavis clearly didn't have a problem with such things, as they convinced the cat that not only did our essence belong to her, a convenient lie, but we would assist it in a matter of great import. We were to retrieve an item from a cave on the island.   I must say, seeing Mavis again was a great relief to me. I may have altered their fate, but their will and life remained. Yet I cannot shake the new undertone I find among her action. The insistence on deals worries me. She may not be the same Mavis I knew. My duty stands, however. For all those that stand beside me, I must protect. Such is the way of my circle. Such is the oath by which I grow.   The cave was guard by a massive spider and its kin. I called upon a giant snake to combat it, but I proved not the match of it. I soon found it bearing upon me as I struggled to maintain the life of my companions.   When I awake the spider was dead and my companions safe. Death avoided by a hair. Various items lay about the cave, most key of which was a small cat statue. This we returned to the fey cat. Next we had to leave the island. Luckily, I had a plan.
