Ottokath's Journal #14

General Summary

I spent the night meditating. We stayed there, exhausted as we were. I needed answers and was convinced I could find them in the world around them. There I felt a connection. A presence far away, yet close. If only I gave it form. A fey. I would explore this further come morning.   I gave it form and it coalesced into that of a ferret. It soon identified itself a Feyret and demanded a thing it called essence. I in turn asked it question about Mavis. It agreed to exchange essence for such information. I wasn't so easily deceived, however. So I asked it what essence might entail. This started a long relation where it would fail to explain the nature of essence in terms one of our plane might understand. It did, however, for better or worse, agree to keep an eye on Mavis in my stead.   We proceeded to Ridayh. It wasn't far and we arrived safely. It was a small town with a dock, a few houses and a large stage. Here they had their "wares" on display. Feyret asked from the back of my mind if it could consume some of the individuals present and I politely refused. Hamood found a merchant willing to sell us up to four needles rather quickly. He demanded a hundred gold, however. I am poorly familiar with the human currencies, but know well enough that this is a lot. And this man deserved none of it. I subtly extended my influence and the sylphs around him found his ear. A twenty-five gold discount was quite in order.   Shortly after having left town we had another altercation with desert bandits. It took the worst of it. Four arrows pierce my armour and next I knew I was on my back in the sand. I should have seen them, but Mavis' dissapearance was still too fresh on my mind to focus on the road ahead. Turns out Feyret may be more powerful than I initially expected. Not only did he appear without me actively giving him for, but he... consumed one of the aggressing individuals. I assumed this to be the process of claiming essence. I worry what I may have brought to this world, but I can feel the connection still. Should I need to, I might be able to suppress it.   We returned south and were lucky enough to avoid any altercation with the giant snakes this time. We quickly found ourselves headed back to the citadel. Here we met the orc samurai once more. This time he was beset by more of the insectoid we had met before and we were quick to lend him aid. He was, surprisingly, quite grateful for our intervention.   Back at the citadel, we wasted little time on visiting the priestess. I made sure to keep an eye on Art. One never knows what a desperate ally might do. The priestess accept our "offering" of needles and proceeded with the ritual. Unsurprisingly, she had no need of the needles in the process. Human don't fail to prove greedy at every opportunity. A stinging sensation engulfed us, not too dissimilar to the curse being used and one by one we lost consciousness...
