Lindworms

A subspecies of Dragons, or Lesser Dragon, which tend to congregate in large groups. They are well known for their unique hunting tactics, and boast a wide variety of regional names, such as Scalejacket and Poison Noose. Contrary to their nickname, Poison Nooses are in fact venomous, not poisonous. A group of lindworms is often referred to as a "tangle." Interestingly, a lindworm is capable of understanding Draconic, but cannot speak it.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Lindworms possess a large skull with large eyes to match, and a thin, winding, rope-like body. They are incapable of self-powered flight, but possess a retractable gliding membrane. Four small clawed legs are used for climbing, while two folding limbs are used to anchor the gliding membrane to their body. They come in a variety of colours which tend to match their surrounding environment for camouflage.

Ecology and Habitats

Lindworms thrive in arboreal areas, but can also be found at cliffsides, where they can climb, glide, and hide.

Dietary Needs and Habits

A single lindworm is not much of a threat to a capable adult human on it's own. However, it is rare to encounter one by itself. Lindworms are ambush predators who stalk the canopy/cliffside and ambush prey by dropping down upon them. Lindworms will overwhelm their victim by sheer number, coiling around their prey, weighing them down, and injecting venom. The lack of potency in their venom is overcome by a stacking effect via multiple individuals.

Biological Cycle

Tangles of lindworms will gather in the crevices of trees and mountains during the colder seasons, where they hibernate.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Excellent vision in all types of light, good sense of smell, average hearing, and poor strength. A lindworm's bite is venomous, however the dosage is very small. It is unlikely for a human to die of a single bite.

Do they only have fangs, like snakes? or do they have teeth? how to they eat their prey once it is killed? they can't just swallow it Interesting article BTW

Thanks for reading! They have poisonous fangs, yes, but teeth as well. Like piranhas or cookie cutter sharks, Lindworms will swarm their prey and bite off chunks of flesh from their victim once they are unable to fight back. They will not feed from thrashing prey, as it is likely for the Lindworm to retain injury.

Wait, are you implying that their venom paralyses as opposed to kill? That would be a shiver inducing experienc for a player to see something being eaten alive by those things
