Basilisks
test
The largest species ever documented to roam Apteros. Fossil records report their appearance after the first Dragons, but before the emergence of other sapient species. The presence of Basilisks burrowing through the planet's crust has hollowed most land-based terrain and seeded life to many underground ecosystems.
Basic Information
Anatomy
snake-like body. colossal in size, therefore difficult to study. the most complete skeleton documented recorded 6 vestigial limbs. thick skull with drill-like protrusion for digging. very tough, ridged scales which can grind through rock.
Genetics and Reproduction
very little is known of a basilisk's life cycle.
Ecology and Habitats
fossils have been found in every continent, and even the oceans. living basilisks were observed primarily in subterranean habitats, emerging only to feed.
Dietary Needs and Habits
A basilisk's primary diet consists of dragons. To locate such elusive prey, basilisks are attuned to the unique frequency of a dragon's roar, the Draconic language. once pin pointed, a basilisk will typically ambush its prey, bursting out of the ground to attack.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
poor eyesight which functions best in the dark. acute hearing.
