The Nether Scrolls

The Nether Scrolls This set of 40 scrolls are THE most influential artifacts in the history of Aebir-Toril.   They are speculated to be created by the Founding Races during the Ages of Thunder before they were wiped out by the tearfall .   After this they were taken by the elves and hidden by them since Corellon deemed them as blasphemy and items of absolute destruction. Most of them were kept in Aryvandaar, the sun elf empire (It is speculated the elves used the Nether Scrolls to assist in the first-sundering ).   Following the collapse of Aryvandaar the Nether scrolls were lost save for 5 that were kept by other elves.   At the start of the Empire of Netheril an Adventurer with the alias “Finder” found the Nether Scrolls in the ruins of Aryvandaar and brought them back to their Wizard King Ioulaum.   Ioulaum studied the scrolls for years and became the first wizard capable of casting 10th and 11th level spells and created the first Enclave of Xinlenal. Ioulaum then selectively dispersed the Nether Scrolls to other wizards who then began to make their own enclaves and Netheril was born as the most magically advanced empire in history. . A book known as “The Thief’s Idiocy” recalls a true story of a Thief who stole 24 Nether Scrolls from Ioulaum. Allenic Porhunt, the Thief, was hired by Arcanist Halavar to steal a few Nether Scrolls from Ioulaum for a large reward including use of his Infinitum Pantograph (a large box that could clone anything non-magical including flesh). The Thief was successful in stealing the Nether Scrolls, but Halavar was caught before Allenic Porhunt could claim his reward. He fled to lower Netheril and tried to sell them to other low ranking wizards but never found anyone willing to incur the wrath of the Arcanists. The Thief then melted the Nether Scrolls he stole down into chunks of gold which he sold for 15gp. Approximately 1500 years after he claimed to melt the scrolls into gold they reappeared in perfect condition near some of the other Nether Scrolls.   Another event known as the “Elves’ Betrayal” involving the elves of Cormanthor took place closer to the end of Netheril’s Empire. A small group of elite elves snuck in and stole the remaining 11 Nether Scrolls, 6 of which were returned to their original ruins. The other 5 were kept by the elves. 148 years after this event Netheril was about to begin a war against the elves to reclaim their artifacts to use them to stop the Phaerimm, but #deleted-channel happened.   In present time it is speculated that Myth Drannor has the largest collection of Nether Scrolls.
