Session 29: The Mask of Cruelties

Previously on Team Elliwick, having scouted the depleted town of Eistedfod, the party disguised themselves as fiends and enslaved townsfolk. The whole of the town seemed running on the fumes of adrenaline and nothing else, with cultists, soldiers, fiends, and townsfolk not having had a break since around a quarter to three the day before with the outbreak of a riot. It really is poor form to start a riot so late in the day because then before you know it you're rioting all night and you don't have time to grab a bite to eat. In the weeks to come, those that survive Eistedfod will coalesce around this conclusion. Back to the recent past, slipping through the docks and the small, open mudflats our odd grouping stole a 30ft long seafaring rowing boat called a ferriby boat and crossed the water. It was awkward and ineffectual but they eventually made it to the Mynydd Paerc or Mountian Park, an oddly peaceful wooded area with stripes of igneous rock cutting through the underbrush. From there, they snuck up through a lava tube into Mt Eistedfod where they found a hulking and hastily constructed archway portal to Hell. There, cultists and warriors were casting bound townsfolk in groups of 5 into the portal under the statuesque leering visage of The Master of Cruelties. Quickly the group revealed their presence and proceeded to enter into a long fight with The Master of Cruelties. There were some touch and go moments with Amalthea and Tye both having their injuries become so severe that their bodies fell briefly unconscious. As the battle slowly swung in the group's favor, the Master of Cruelties attempted to escape through the portal. After a few unsuccessful attempts to stop him, Elliwick broke from her enchanted trance and hurled a bolt of flame at the ramshackle planar portal. With a staggering crack, the portal was destroyed and the group was able to make quick work of the Master of Cruelties. What remained of the imposing fiend was demon ichor and a mask that the group has taken to try to dispose of. Battered and weary Team Elliwick looks for what their next steps will be.   Party finds a place to long rest cause they NEED it. They likely pick someone to stand guard for the night. Whoever it is sees the modron:   You see a reflective glint in the foliage a few hundred feet from you. After around 15 minutes, you see enough occasional details, a large blue eye here, a wooden shaft there, to make out what looks like a creature made of flesh, wood, and bronze watching you in an eerily motionless manner.   If it's someone other than Quinn standing watch, they need to resist a DC 20 wisdom save to not fall asleep. If they do, they see frost and snow accumulate sourcelessly on their sleeping compatriots. After about a minute of problem solving they need to make another save. This repeats until they fall asleep. The compatriots cannot be woken up.   When they awake in the Fey Realm read:   You become aware that you've entered a dream. This dream is bitingly frigid, causing your legs to be itchy with the cold. There's a memory of childhood that you have that involves an appreciative fondness for the calm of a snowy day. You instantly get a sense memory of this from your surroundings. The Mynydd Paerc looks as it did before but every branch is holding as much light, powdery snow as it can handle and the stripes of igneous rock have footprints in the snow that covers them. Around you is everyone including Quinn in her halfling body. There are also two 11 inch tall elfen figures with deep blue skin and wispy white hair positively vibrating with energy.   Alfred and Alflaed lead them to celebrate Alban Arthuan (christmas) in a perfect clearing with a long dining tables made of basalt.
