The Ocean of Fire

Ocean of Fire is a religious organization dedicated to spreading faith in the fire demigod, Arkanwe. The name "Ocean of Fire" comes from the prophet Gockma, who described the dimension from which the cultists summon beings as "a waterfall, filled with unimaginable terror, falling into an ocean of fire, from which monsters arise, devouring entire worlds."   Members of this organization are engaged in religious mission, enchanting objects, and spreading influence among the merchants and nobles of the South through intimidation. Their official leader is Arkanwe himself. According to their belief, the manifestation of his will is ifrits, summoned by the most faithful cultists, what they call "inviting".   The most important title in the cultist hierarchy is Humble Host. He has at his disposal generals, called Servants of the Host. You can become a Humble Host by election by submitting your candidacy after 20 years of Service. The Humble Host cannot be dismissed in any way, nor can he relinquish his position. The Humble Host's tasks include guiding the religious mission, determining sources of operational funds, and taking care of the cultivation of the Fire in the ranks of the organization's members.   There are several ways to become a Servant of the Host: being nominated by the Humble Host himself, which is an unassailable nomination, working for the Servants of the Host for at least 10 years, or being recommended by 2/3 of the assembly of the Servants. The last two choices are contestable by the Humble Host.   The tasks of the Servants of the Host include carrying out the commands of the Humble Host in one of several assigned Areas: Quality of Life, Mission, Resources, Nexus, Security. While not all areas require practice in summoning demons to become a Humble Host, it is an unwritten rule that a candidate must be experienced in this art. Summoning demons is a noble act in this organization. Ifrit summoning is done by a few powerful cultists, with the permission of the Servants, that are members of Area of Nexus.   The key geographic point of the Ocean of Fire is the Ifrit Temple in Axia. It is an object of worship that is inhabited by ifrits. It's too hot for mortals there, though select members of the Ocean of Fire may be blessed by ifrit with immunity to fire, allowing them to inhabit the Temple. They devote themselves to understanding the dimension of demons through meditation and exploring the truths about magic and reality. The temples are surrounded by a large camp of tents and makeshift structures, temporary dwellings for cultists who come for blessings.   The second important cultist's stronghold is the city of Ihrem Daagu. The Ocean of Fire uses it as a base for its missionaries heading north to the cities of the Merchant Coalition and south to Mintara. The third settlement of the members of this organization is the city of Inadaigen, one day's walk from the Temple. This is where most of the cultists live. This is where other factions and races come into contact with the followers of the Ocean of Fire most often. They usually offer enchanting items, mercenary services and summoning demons.   The Mercenary Brotherhood of the Ocean of Fire is also located there. It sells armed cultists and their talents. It is under the Area of Resource. Mercenaries - cultists deal in murder, summoning, intimidation. Each assignment is consulted with the master of the Brotherhood, and must not harm any area of the Ocean of Fire. The Ocean of Fire Mercenary Brotherhood naturally competes with the Southern Free Cities Mercenary Guild for clients, though there are differences in their services that keep the two organizations relatively peaceful, such as the Guild also accepting theft, diversion, and protection jobs where the Brotherhood is limited to to physical violence and summoning demons. The Brotherhood is much more efficient at executing quests, but the Guild's services are cheaper. The Guild owes no allegiance to any faction where the Brotherhood will not work against the Ocean of Fire.   The Ocean of Fire is at peace with the City-State of Mintara, but the cultists are constantly trying to get into the Funnels and sieze their power, which is forbidden and punished by Mintara's guards. The Ocean of Fire does not officially admit to organizing sabotage and attacks on the Funnels. The cultists have a shaky relationship with the Merchant Coalition, but they continue to trade together. However, no one is under the illusion that both sides seek to destabilize and absorb the other. The members of the Ocean of Fire regard the second organization devoted to the demigod Arkanwe, the House of Penthal Burners, as their brothers, calling them "the oppressed".
