Nedyola Lathalas Character in Antiquorum | World Anvil

Nedyola Lathalas

Nedyola Lathalas is the daughter of Hataelle and Vanuath Lathalas. Both, her mother Hataelle and her father Vanuath worked as humble farmers. Nedyola has six siblings, three older and three younger.   She grew up on a farm in a small village called Beacán Titeann.   Her older siblings are: Theriatis (he/him, left for Idica to work as an artificer), Elama (she/her, is stationed as a soldier in Pernith) and Draeli (he/him, works as a grave cleric at the AFTCA).   Her younger siblings are: Maiathah (they/them, left home to become a sailor), Paelias (he/him, is a student at the Spire), Aramil (he/him, works as a labourer in the Backbone).   Nedyola has kept in touch with Draeli and Aramil. They write to eachother regularly. They are very close to eachother.   Nedyola has lost touch with Elama, Theriatis and Maiathah. Sometimes word from Elama reaches her parents, but it's been a while since they last heard from her. Maiathah doesn't believe in letters. Sometimes she drops by unexpectedly with tales to tell and small souvenirs to gift. Theriatis visits maybe once a month.   Nedyola knows where Paelias is, but the two don't write to eachother. Also, he never visits. Everybody is assuming that he too busy with his studies.   Nedyola comes from a happy, normal family. She is on friendly terms with all of her family members more or less. Nedyola stayed home with her parents even when all of her other siblings left. She helped with the farm and in her free time she went foraging for mushrooms. She didn't just pluck mushrooms for food, she also studied them, fascinated by them.   When Nedyola was 60 years old, a fungal plague took her parents and most of the other villagers. Everybody in the village was infected by mycelium. Most of the infected died. However, some of the infected, including Nedyola survived. Their bodies were somehow able to absorb the mycelium or, for reasons unknown, the mycelium just kept them alive. It's a mystery till this day. The fungal plague has left its mark on those who survived. Small patches of moss grow on their skin and mushrooms of different sizes sprout from their skin.   When her parents died Nedyola sent word to her siblings. None of them were willing to come by the village because they were afraid to contract the fungal plague.   After the plague Nedyola worked her parents' farm for some time. She farmed all kinds of vegetables and of course mushrooms. At the age of 71 she met a circle of spores druid scholar. She decided to become the scholar's student. Together, Hadwisa Amanita and Nedyola embarked on a journey through the forests and the tunnels and caves below it to study the mycelium, mushrooms and mushroom creatures. After ten years of exploring and studying they settled in a small town underground called Chathair Faoin Talamh where they built a small library filled with tomes on all types of fungi and mushroom creatures.   On her 99th birthday, Nedyola received a letter from Aramil asking her to meet him and Draeli at the AFCTA. The letter doesn't state why Aramil wants her to come to the Backbone, but Nedyola can't refuse her two favourite brothers.
