Anti Cipherites Personalities
Thurburt - A shy nervous and bumbling fellow,Thurburt wouldn't be the type of person to be in a leadership position. Although it seems that fate showed him otherwise, since he is the leader of the proud Anti Cipher Society despite his incompetence. Not only is he an incompetent worrywart, but he's also a journalist who's always ready to gain the latest scoop for his papers as he hopes that once he gets involved in some big event then maybe his dismissive and neglectful father will finally deem him as something more than a worthless, meek loser.. He is socially awkward and he always seems to be too afraid to do anything unless people force him to. Thurburt cowers in fear when faced with danger,a truly pathetic leader that the Anti Cipherites were given the misfortune of dealing with. He can't even speak properly without interrupting himself with "uhh" or "erm..". He's also an absolute klutz who was cursed with terrible coordination as he drops everything that people give him due to sweaty fingers and he often bumps into things despite his eyesight being completely fine. However what he lacks in coordination and social skills,he makes up with resourcefulness and spirit. Being the weak one with many disadvantages growing up forced him to be creative and think outside the box during sticky situations. He comes up with strange yet effective ideas whenever he's faced with a problem. This is why he's deemed the ideas man of the Anti Cipherites as he's known for his creativity. Heck,he occasionally helps Abigale come up with blueprints for her machines due to his big imagination being of great help to her. Thurburt is also quick-witted and can come up with solutions on the fly, which is why the Anti Cipherites often leave the brainstorming to him whenever they need another plan to destroy William Lucipher. The Anti Cipher Society wouldn't have survived half of their encounters with William Lucipher if it weren't for his big ideas, this being the main reason why he's still a fit leader for the Anti Cipherites. And even with his fear,he is spirited and determined to get what he wants no matter what cost. His perseverance and determination is the reason why the Anti Cipherites keep trying to destroy the demon despite the many failed attempts they've had, their incompetent yet resolute leader inspires them to keep going. Although his incompetence was indirectly caused by his terrible family. He had a wealthy background, his father was the influential owner of a steel factory company while his mother was a housewife who often went out gossiping with her friends rather than spending time with her husband and son. He and his father never saw eye to eye, they never even talked to each other although that's mostly because he was always busy. The two never interacted besides the few times that Mr. Waxstaff shoved gifts in Thurburt's arms in an effort to get the boy to leave him alone. His father was neglectful as well as verbally abusive,he made Thurburt think he was nothing but a burden on their family as he went on and on about how his cousins did much better than him in everything. He wanted Thurburt to become the powerful and influential heir to his steel factory company, yet he never bothered to nurture the confidence and give the praise that the boy needed to succeed as he opted to give him lavish gifts and toys instead. His mother wasn't any better either,as the only interactions he has had with her was her constantly insulting him for no reason or judging what he does during his leisure (Mrs. Waxstaff: Crosswords?. How tedious). Having inattentive parents made Thurburt feel quite lonely and unloved growing up,thus he ended up seeking attention elsewhere which is how he managed to land his journalism career as a young man as he went up to the address that said "Hiring copywriter" and showed them what he could write. From a young age,Thurburt knew that men were far more fairer to him than any of the women he's encountered. He couldn't help but turn his head whenever another man took off his upper garments to reveal sweaty pectorals during the summer or stare at a fellow's biceps whenever he was at the gym to inquire people for a sports article he was writing. Although he desperately tried to hide these feelings as he knew that he'd be arrested if he got caught ogling another man and he'd be surely executed once someone witnesses him having relations with the same sex. To express his unsaid urges,he wrote love letters about the various dashingly handsome men he's encountered but no one ever saw them as he deeply hid the letters somewhere in his house. He has been repressing these urges even more lately ever since he became the leader of the Anti Cipher Society which had not one but two charming men as members, although his sexuality started to become more apparent after he started spending time with a certain jaded priest..
Tinsley - Lonesome grumpy and embittered, the words that describe such a dispirited man that was once guided by the Holy Spirit but is now empty inside with no spirit or alcoholic beverage being able to fill the void left in his chest. Tinsley is disinterested in most matters besides drinking or gossiping with his fellows particularly Abigale. He is eternally depressed as well as annoyed with almost everything and everyone, none of the Anti Cipherites have ever seen him smile as the best expression they can gouge out of him is a frustrated scowl over the various antics that the Anti Cipher Society gets into. Although he DOES have some happy moments, but they are far and few in between as they only happen whenever he's drunk enough to forget about his troubles for a bit or whenever he feels like talking about his old street rat days as stealing and committing crimes to survive without a care in the world was the only time he ever felt free from the misfortune that has followed his life since birth. Whenever he isn't sulking about his unfortunate circumstances,he's getting angry over little things such as Jessamine dragging him into her guest room at Thurburt's house so that she could force him to try to commune with her dead gunfight opponent in order for her to insult them as he then yelled at her for ruining his drinking time or throwing exorcism salt in Thurburt's eyes for waking him up from his blackout drinking nap so he could participate in a test for another one of Abigale's machines. His horrible short temper was the only good thing he got from his father,as his volatile anger made people leave him alone and he'd like to keep it that way despite how much it secretly disheartens him that his fellows are hesitant to interact with him due to his temper. Tinsley is a no nonsense and bossy fellow, who often tells off the other Anti Cipherites for their reckless antics or nag them whenever they're being too chaotic as he often feels like he's responsible for his fellows due to being the oldest of the group. He's the only sane one out of the whole Anti Cipher Society besides Thurburt as he actually has common sense in comparison to Abigale Jessamine and Horace who immediately turn to insane machinery brute force or firearms when faced with a problem,he has to point out the sensible solution for everyone lest they end up getting themselves gravely injured from their stunts. He deems himself to be a far more rational person in comparison to the lunatics that wanted to shoot, punch, remove their own brains. Tinsley doesn't seem to have any traits besides his short temper or his depressive nature, but that's only because he's hiding his true personality. The real Tinsley is kind thoughtful loving and intensely cares about his loved ones even if he doesn't show it,this is the reason why he has never struck any of his fellows despite his temper plus he makes an effort to be friendly whenever he isn't being moody due to his pain. He just hides his true caring nature with a stoic and aloof mask just so that his friends wouldn't have to deal with the horrible internal mess within him,he doesn't want to be a burden to anyone with his problems and he fears that once anyone gets close they'll be dragged into his mess. So instead of openly caring,he just lashes out at everyone like he usually does and occasionally shows his concern with actions such as the time he handed Jessamine some bandages and ointment for the gunshot wound that she accidentally gave herself when she couldn't walk to the store to get some due to the bullet wound on her leg. His terrible father is the reason why he's like this and sometimes the priest wishes that he'd been born from another family because of it..
Tinsley was born to a pretty well off father named Gordon and a prostitute mother named Barbara,a bastard child that was born out of wedlock. His mother immediately gave him away to his father after she decided that she didn't want him anymore and his father knew this was for the best as he didn't want to associate with that harlot woman ever again for the sake of his reputation no matter how good she was at pleasuring him. His father changed his birth name "Tinny" to his current one and once he was older,he made it very clear to the boy that he was nothing but a supplemental heir in case his various other children from his many mistresses failed to be useful to him. He was forced to be a perfect and obedient representative of the O'Pimm family, with his father beating any interest or behavior that deviated from his impossibly high expectations out of the poor boy. Tinsley was into painting and the fine arts, but he also had a strict rich person routine where he'd hunt game birds with his father attend etiquette classes study noble history and various other things and if he didn't follow the routine he'd be punished for being a "failure of an heir" so he repressed his true desire for the arts for the sake of not getting clobbered by his father. He wasn't allowed to have a personality or life besides the one already set up for him so he just gave into his father's demands without letting himself develop his own identity besides the one he's already being shaped into. However he couldn't help but have his own interests,Tinsley was an excitable and curious boy just like any other child and he wanted to travel around the world while showcasing his art pieces to everyone but he had to put his true desires aside in order to follow the path his father had already set for him. He was supposed to be the heir to all of his father's assets such as his properties wealth and various companies but he became too rebellious one day by spending all his time painting while the man was away instead of following his routine and Gordon was FURIOUS,so furious to the point that he decided to sell the boy to an architect looking for a slave worker the following day after smacking his face several times for being such a "failure". Yet despite this,he still loved his father for (barely) raising him when his mother gave him away and all he wanted was to be loved back. He just wanted to be loved, yet no one ever returned the love that he desperately wanted to give to anyone so that someone would finally care.. Tinsley later got taken into the Western Holy Church after living as a street rat for a while and became indoctrinated into their beliefs while using the idea of some higher power hearing his desperate pleas for his suffering to end in order to cope with the misfortune relentlessly plagued his life. But the misfortune never left and it only got worse as he turned to drinking after he lost his wife and his job due to that blasted William Lucipher ruining his life, leaving him to become the depressive husk that he currently is. Tinsley knew that he was into men from the start,no matter how much he convinced himself that he liked women. He often caught himself eyeing his fellow priests as a young man while watching intensely as they changed into their robes as he saw their handsome forms and even a glimpse of their.. parts one time although he repressed these sinful urges for the sake of not getting executed for practicing sodomy. Unlike Thurburt and Horace,he is in great denial over his sexuality and he thinks that he's straight because of the fact that he had a wife although he really just married that woman as he felt bad if he didn't since she was such a nice lady. He felt obligated to marry her after humoring her attempts at courtship, but the real reason he married her was the fact that he has never been loved the way she did and he clinged to that love like it was gonna kill him if he didn't as he felt greatly attached to the woman despite being into men (bro mistook strong feelings of friendship for love). Although now that he's spending more time with Thurburt,he can't help but express these urges as his sinful desires become more apparent every time he get an ache in his trousers whenever he sees the journalist..
Abigale - Abigale is a brilliant woman who has built things far ahead of her time, with her machines being as precise as clockwork. Her behavior is just as precise as her works,as she wants things to be predictable fixated and exact such as dates regarding Anti Cipher Society meetings or where her belongings are situated which is why she often gets annoyed if others aren't as punctual or tidy as her (Abigale: Thurburt, where do you keep your pens?. I need something to write with for my newest blueprint but i left mine at the hotel i stay in. Thurburt: I don't.. know where they are. They're usually scattered in a drawer somewhere. Abigale, seething at the thought of someone being so messy: I'm going to kill you with a hammer). This is because her father often nagged her about being messy tardy as well as uncoordinated back then,as he was willing to excuse her deviating from others' expectations of how a woman acts but he wasn't about to let his daughter become a blundering slob, which is why she's now very organized and neat.
She has been considered a neat freak by the other Anti Cipherites because of this. Abigale is known for being calm and unbothered by things, she never gets mad as she only gets annoyed at best nor does she panic whenever things go wrong as every mistake is a learning experience for her. Thurburt and Horace envy these traits of hers,as the most emotional members of the group, they can't help but react brashly during times of crisis unlike their level-headed inventress friend. She has always abided by "go with the flow" since she knows that life isn't over when misfortune hits,it just becomes another lesson to learn from. She's always confident in herself no matter what happens as she knows that no insult or mistake can get her down,as she knows that she's still brilliant regardless of what people say about her or her faults. She has mastered the art of not giving a single hoot about people's expectations of her,as her father taught her that she can be anything she wants to be and achieve everything she dreams of if she just believes in herself while working hard to get what she wants. Although she made the mistake of trying to cheat her way out of hard work by making that deal with William Lucipher to regain her life and success back, and look where it brought her.. Abigale is chaotic and morally questionable as she has broken into places to get scrap metal multiple times and she has also ended up getting almost caught for stealing important electrical parts from government facilities on several occasions, not to mention her being wanted for genocidal terrorism due to the demon possessing her body. She is willing to do anything to be able to build her machines, which includes illegal activities. She has considered killing people for the mechanical parts they have on their person such as the gears from wrist watches although she has never done it yet,the other Anti Cipherites hearing her casually talk about thinking of committing murder makes them concerned for their own safety but they know that she won't hurt them as they're friends. But despite her skewed view on ethics,Abigale is a good person who greatly cares about her family and friends even when she doesn't seem to care about the well-being of innocents that become involved in her crimes (Eda coded). She will go out of her way to protect her loved ones such as the time she risked hurting herself just to restrain William Lucipher from using her body to hurt her friends and she makes an effort to always help them with their problems which is why she often lends a listening ear as well as a shoulder to cry on whenever O'Pimm or Jessamine or any of the Anti Cipherites have any troubles that they need someone to talk to about. She is a nice and empathic friend who always seems to be in tune with everyone's feelings,as she knows their "tells" which are signs that they're upset. Even when she's stressed or frustrated, she still makes an effort to be friendly towards her dear fellows as she knows that she's the only thing that's keeping everyone together. Because of this and her calm demeanor, she's often assigned as the mediator whenever any of the Anti Cipherites are quarreling with each other. And despite her cheery disposition as well as her unwavering confidence in herself, she still has some regrets and dark things that she'd rather not talk about such as never making up with her beloved father before he died in the fiery blaze that William Lucipher did to her hometown using her body or the fact that she sometimes blames herself for being so hated by society due to being different. She came from a fairly middle class family, consisting of only herself and her father as her parents divorced before she was born which means that she never met her mother. She loved her father dearly,as he did everything he could to support her and take care of her despite how strange she was as a child. Mortimer was quite proud of how his daughter came to inherit his brilliance, and he happily nurtured her gift until she went off to college. He was an inventor just like his dear Abigale and he made time to humor her interests as well as theories about machinery despite being a single father with a busy career. He had never thought of his daughter any differently,he treated her just like any other child even though she was strange and erratic and when she grew older,he made it his mission to prevent his daughter from being ostracized for being a deviant from the norm regarding how women should act. Abigale wishes that she could've at least said goodbye to her father before he died in the fire.. (she misses her dad SOBS. as a woman with a great relationship with her father as well, this makes me very emotional). Abigale knew ever since she started to go to school that she was never into the idea of romance or sexual relations. She was always puzzled by everyone being so interested in courtship or having a bride/groom when all she wanted was to be happy with her family and maybe a few friends. She has never loved in the way that people commonly knew, but she knows that she loves her father then later her friends the Anti Cipherites. Although she knew that this wasn't normal and so she pretended to be interested in the male fellows that she has encountered just for the sake of not being seen as "broken". She was already hated by society as is for being an eccentric woman whose interests involved engineering and machinery rather than cooking or being a housewife, she didn't want to give them another reason to ostracize her as even with her confidence, the disgusted/confused looks that strangers give her whenever she happily walks around in public with a machine in hand rather than a husband greatly hurt her.
Jessamine - Jessamine is a silver-tongued and brash lady whose words cut as hard as her bullets, she isn't afraid to speak her mind as well as get physical with her firearms when push comes to shove and she makes it everyone else's problem. She is honest to a fault which is why she often comes off as blunt or even harsh towards others when it's not her intention to hurt anyone just by stating the facts, she gets easily defensive whenever people point out her weaknesses such as her being far more skilled in firearms than housekeeping like a lady should be which often ends up in her giving the offender a stern talking to and also a bullet in said offender's shoulder. This is why she comes off as too mean to everyone even though she's not trying to be,it's just her personality. She's known for causing trouble as well as stirring up drama for her own amusement such as the time she released all of the horses in her family's ranch into an open road for carriages to travel through just to see the poor creatures whinny in fear over being transported to an unfamiliar place or the time she lied to an unsuspecting, gullible nobleman about his mistress stealing his expensive designer suit when it was actually Jessamine herself that stole it in order to see his amusing panicked reaction while he storms off to confront his mistress over a crime she didn't commit. She was known as the "troublemaking twit" of her hometown as most disasters and or unfortunate events were almost always caused by her meddling in order to get some fun out of her boring farmhand duties. She often shirked her responsibilities at the Gulch ranch in order to goof off and shoot game birds as targets or better yet shoot the chickens at another farm just to see how pissed off the coop owner would get,Jessamine was skilled in her farm duties as she WAS a southern belle raised in a ranch although she often didn't feel like tending to her duties so she was deemed as lazy and incompetent when really it was the opposite. She was capable of doing hard work and was fine with it,but she was often bored of her simple life at the ranch and wanted more than just being a farmhand at her family's farm as she wanted to see everything else that the world offered although she had to set that dream aside in order to support her lower class family. And while she often got into trouble as a young lass, she was able to get out of it due to her being a smooth talker that has a way with words. Her words are a double edged sword that can either get her out of a situation or make it worse based on how she feels at the moment and also whether she wants to cause more drama or not. She's still currently a smooth talker, although now she doesn't need to use her persuasive honey-coated words unless she has to convince her boss at the sideshow circus to give her a day off. Also even though she's often known to be harsh and blunt as well as aggressive with her firearms,Jessamine has a hidden soft side that only her loved ones get to see as she can be quite kind and friendly towards her friends and family. She always offers to do technical work for the Anti Cipherites as well as get her hands dirty for them as her way of showing she cares is through acts of service, and she was never good with emotions although she tries to offer some words of advice whenever her fellows vent their troubles to her. She would gladly shoot a man for her dear friend Thurburt and her beloved Abigale as well as take a bullet for them whenever the situation calls for it. Also she often offers marksmanship lessons for both of her dear friends as she wants them to be able to defend themselves when she's not around, however Abigale seems to be doing better than Thurburt and his sweaty palms. She's only such a good gun slinger because of her father who was a veteran in the American Civil War,however she and her father never saw eye to eye as the man never approved of her troublemaking behavior. She had always been closer to her seamstress mother than her veteran father, and constantly being nagged by him due to her chaotic antics drove her crazy. Her father was quite strict and never gave her any sort of affection or attention nor did he ever support her dreams, which is why she felt as though only her marksmanship skills and troublemaking personality gave her worth as her father never told her otherwise. Jessamine grew up in a lower class family while staying at her parents' ranch, the Gulch Ranch. Her father was a strict and stoic man that almost never agreed with anything she said nor ever supported her in her interests while her mother was a loving and gentle woman who often spent her time making clothes out of sack fabric to sell in order to get at least SOME income despite their unfortunate financial situation. Her father only ever nagged her and never treated her positively besides the fact that he taught her how to shoot efficiently, her mother was often busy with making clothes but despite that she managed to make time for her daughter in order to love and support her to make up for her father's neglect of her. But even then,Jessamine still felt undervalued due to her dreams not being supported as even her mother wanted her to stay at the farm rather than pursue her dreams of making designer fashion while traveling around the world and her father on the other hand outright banned her from pursuing her dreams after she got expelled at school for shooting her bullies as the man deemed her to be far too irresponsible and reckless to be a worthy manager of a fashion design business. Which was what lead her to taking on her western sideshow act career as she abandoned her dreams in favor of something practical so she could save her family from their financial situation, and she tried working SO hard to support her family but that was a difficult feat to manage especially when she was being paid a minimum wage. She tried hard work, and it didn't pay off so she accepted William Lucipher's offer to turn her life around in exchange for watching over a steel mechanism. And she lost everything, even her family that she held so dear and worked so hard to support. She wished that she could've hugged her Mama and Papa one last time, and apologize to her father for being such a difficult daughter before the demon killed them.. Jessamine was a bit indecisive regarding her tastes in either gender, although it became apparent that she was interested in both once she became old enough to understand the notions of love and lust. She read magazines depicting both men and women in revealing outfits which made her shudder in delight every time she saw them, she went to the beach one time only to watch other women as well as men undress to reveal their parts. But despite her being into either gender, she had a preference for women and had crushes towards other ladies more often than the times she got infatuated with men. She openly wrote letters for the women she was interested in and some of them have wrote back which resulted in some sexual encounters, although the feelings she has for her dear friend Abigale are much stronger than the passion she felt for the other women she has been with..
Horace's personality - A stoic and aloof behemoth of a man who doesn't speak much save for a few instances, his silence makes him all the more intimidating as his towering figure alone manages to scare people into submission without him even doing anything. Whenever he DOES speak,it's always cutting words that can make even the toughest soldier cry as the sportsman is known for being curt and harsh towards everyone he meets. Horace is a fellow who's tough as nails as he has gone through the most backbreaking, rigorous training for his athletic career without even flinching,he is strong and unyielding to anything that life throws at him as he has withstanded the most severe insults the worst physical regimen and the harshest mistreatment in honorable stride. However this is only because his father forced him to go through those things in order to "strengthen" him as he didn't want to have a "pathetic, sniveling weakling" as his son and the poor sportsman now has to deal with the effects of his horrific parenting... He's pretty aggressive and strict with his fellows, especially if they're slacking off of coming up with plans to destroy William Lucipher or if they're playing with crosswords/cards during meetings. The other Anti Cipherites find his behavior to be similar to that of an unforgiving professional sports coach although they don't dare to make fun of him for it lest they'd get scolded and or beaten to a pulp by their athletic friend. He has a fiery temper that can be triggered by ANYTHING,from the little things like Jessamine accidentally misplacing his sports equipment while cleaning out the area so that Abigale can work with her machine properly and she ended up forgetting where she put the man's belongings which earned her a stern talking to or the more sensitive things like O'Pimm telling him that he's weak for losing an arm wrestling match to Abigale who used a mechanism to help her win the match which immediately got the priest beaten up and he would've gravely injured him if Thurburt didn't intervene. As even when he's usually known for being unexpressive and rarely ever smiling or showing emotion besides a stone cold scowl, his great temper can temporarily break through the emotional walls he's made for himself once he becomes affected by the slightest inconvenience. Although despite his rough demeanor,he has a friendlier and softer side that he shows towards his loved ones on occasion such as his mother and later his fellows at the Anti Cipher Society. He was never good with words besides harsh ones,so he often shows his fellows that he cares by helping them out or making handmade gifts using his great strength. His dear friend Jessamine and his beloved Thurburt are often the subject of this nicer side of his,as he has assisted the journalist with heavy lifting multiple times while Jessamine has received many gifts relating to her southern heritage or her firearms (he gave her a wooden figurine of a horse once after cutting down a tree with an axe for the materials, she cried). The only reason why Horace is so hard on others, and himself,is because his father Benjamin made him believe that only the strong can survive in this cruel world and that if he was weak he would get trampled on immediately. He never thought that the toxic beliefs that his father forcefed him were bad,as those beliefs were all he's known his entire life. He only became an athlete rather than a wood carver like he wanted because of the fact that his father told him that such delicate pursuits are only for women and that such a strong young man like him pursuing them would make him look weak,so he became a sportsman just like his father instead in fear of being a "pathetic sissy." His father made him go through grueling training, making him run laps and lift weights without rest or lunch breaks in order to "strenghten" him for the "real world" and Benjamin would harshly punish him by pummeling the young boy to the ground if he slacked off or did something for leisure during training. Benjamin trained him for all of his soccer matches in order to ensure that he would be strong and ready for the field, but the physical regimen was awful. It was torturous for Horace as he did 50 pushups everyday without sleeping he ate nothing but canned meat as energy for his training and whenever he had any free time he would lift weights, and he was subjected to all this as a young scrawny boy on steroids (the man injected him with anabolic steroids because he didn't want his son to be a "useless twig"). When he wasn't being trained by his father,he was being constantly harassed and insulted for EVERYTHING he did because it was "unmanly" although really Benjamin just didn't like his son having interests besides sports as a "great man" would only be into manly hobbies.
He would merely be reading a book or doing crosswords only to get smacked in the face and or harshly insulted for DARING to have interests besides athletic pursuits,Horace felt like he was walking on eggshells around the man lest he'd be horribly mistreated for angering him. His father reasoned that he was doing this out of tough love although Horace knew that wasn't the case, his father never loved him he didn't even nurture him and he instead constantly beat him without a single inch of concern but even then he still had an attachment to his father as he had no other choice than to follow him as he didn't have any other male role models. And this is why Horace came to believe that he didn't deserve to be loved unless it was rough nor did he deserve any gentleness or positive treatment, all because of his father never giving a single hoot about him. From a young age,Horace knew that he was not exclusively into boys or girls but rather both. He often stared at the other young men whenever he hit the gym like his father demanded of him as he admired their sweaty, pulsating bodies while he felt an ache in his shorts and he ended up getting distracted by his male team members' attractive forms in their tight uniforms during soccer matches. He was also interested in women but he went about it in a more respectful way as his father always taught him to be a courteous gentleman towards women and that he should restrain his sinful desires until marriage, the only good things that came out of being raised by a man like him. He often made admiring glances at all of the ladies he's encountered while fantasizing about holding their soft hands and kissing their delicate lips as his father always told him that women are pretty delicate and dainty (oh boy was he wrong *looks at Jessamine*). He was far more interested in the various dashing men he's eencountered rather than the women despite how beautiful they are, although he suppressed these urges as he didn't want to give his father another reason to yell at him not to mention he'd get positively executed or arrested for wishing to have relations with the same sex. However now that he's in the Anti Cipher Society,he couldn't help but feel the passion and great desire he has for a certain journalist despite his feelings being forbidden...
