Komodo

Komodos are a race of lizard like aquatic people. They are found in some pretty random spots around the ocean. Their ruins can be found all over the deep sea. Now there are very few komodo cities. Several clans settled in the triton city of Krakenwatch but most exist in small settlements of 4 or five clans.

Anatomy

Komodos resemble frill-less lizard folk. The have hard scales and sharp teeth. They are carnivorous and like their meet rare and salty. Their eyes are solid colors, ranging from red to yellow to green, with a slit pupil. They have natural claws and webbing inbetween their fingers and toes.

Genetics and Reproduction

Komodos mate roughly every five years after reaching maturity at about 20 years old. They stop at around 150 years old.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Komodos eat almost exclusively meat. They usually like it rare and salty, if not still wriggling.

Naming Traditions

Komodo names are broken into two parts. The first is the most varied and can be almost anything. The second has an apostrophe and two or three capital letters, at least one of which is a consonant. Examples include Arog 'KRE, Lo 'VAK, Rash 'BO, or Brakor 'DU. There is no difference between male and female names to the Komodos.
More important than your name is the name of your clan. Example clan names include Redscale, Razorite, Seascale, Oceanfang, Hammerhead, Whalehaul, Kreeson, Serpento, Lunaclaw, and Argo.

Gender Ideals

The komodos see no reason to treat males and females differently. Both are given maternity leave when in the weeks leading up to and following a childbirth. Komodos respect power and skill, martial, political, magical, and economic.

Courtship Ideals

There is no romance when komodos mate. About every five years, decreasing in frequency after 150 years or so, komodos get horny. Males and females who are horny at the same time try to find the best/most powerful partner and mate.

Common Myths and Legends

The komodos believe that they once had a multi-world spanning ocean empire. They mixed technology and magic to great effect conquering the oceans of every world as they were created. They numbered in the trillions and even the gods feared them. Then something went wrong.  A powerful komodo magician named Amok'GOD was experimenting with magic and technology and destroyed the capitol city of Atlantis. The following wave of destructive energy wiped out most of the komodo population along with most of their technology. All of this is thought of as komodo fairy tales by most scholars.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking

Komodo's coloring seems to hereditary at birth but their coloring slowly shifts based on their training. Red and oranges for warriors, green and yellow for craftsmen, blue and green for wizards and alchemists, and dark colors for rogues. Nobody really knows why this happens.
