The Keys of Telku / Witch War pt. 7 / Von the 8th, 3593 CE / 1-10-21

General Summary

The Adventurers find themselves in the midst of a pitched battle with blighted satyrs. The infected fey creatures are servants of the evil coven which is waging war upon the elves and druids of Greenwood Forest. The Adventurers have agreed to help fight back against the witches and their spreading blight, in exchange for the opportunity to return that much more quickly to their base of operations in the city of Liem. The party was heading south to infiltrate the coven's home of Tanlin Marsh when they encountered the lone survivor of a patrol of elven warriors fighting back against a horde of infected satyrs. The warrior woman is none other than Florina, another former member of the party who disappeared months ago. Having come to her aid, the party uses their magic and abilities to lay waste to one infected creature after the next, making sure each is dead after Florina warns the party that the blighted satyrs can heal and rise once more from their injuries. As John takes down the mutated leader of the monsters, the party is shocked to see the dead creature resume the form of a normal satyr as one of its kin suddenly takes on the mutation. Eventually all of the enemy are slain, though as the leader falls last, his form once again changes, leaving the party to wonder if another creature unseen has inherited his abilities. As Coron and Adrienne spend some time catching up with Florina, Thorne returns to the party from his forward scouting trip. Not recognizing Sonya in her wild-shaped form as a raptor, he opens up to the group to reveal that he is in fact the changeling druid's father, and that she is the progeny of an unholy union with a hag. Sonya reveals her presence once again, much to the discomfort of her father. Seeing the building tension within the group and desiring that they not lose focus of their mission, Florina proposes leading a forward scouting party consisting of herself, Thorne, and Blur, in order to put some distance between the estranged father and daughter. Blur tells the party he will send his eidolon, Kokuya, back and forth to communicate if they run into trouble, and the scouts head off into the woods. Coron deduces that Sonya's mother is one of the hags in the coven responsible for Greenwood's troubles, and asks her if she will be up to doing what is necessary when the time comes. The changeling answers in the affirmative, but moments later is struck down by the after-effects of having ingested some of the infected blood of the blighted satyr while in her raptor form. The party decides to rest and recover, disposing of the bodies of their enemies and paying last rites to the fallen elves. As they settle down to camp, Maelarth, the fey creature sent by the Sunlight Court to observe the Witch War, reveals himself from his hiding spot in the trees, inquiring which of the two adventuring parties he should follow. Adrienne assures him any party with her in it is bound to be the more interesting one, and with a knowing wink the winged bear agrees that is likely the case.
