The Keys of Telku / Witch War pt. 12 / Von the 11th, 3593 CE / 4-11-21

General Summary

The Adventurers are in the fight of their lives against the forces of the dark Coven which threatens the very existence of Greenwood Forest. The coven lead by their companion Sonya Raskoven's own mother, the hideous annis hag Rhangyl, and her two sisters. They have formed a dark pact with and entity known as Dormenxha and are attempting to complete a ritual of power over the land. The party, having been previously captured by the coven, could only watch in horror while bound to posts and surrounded by enemies in the coven's compound. But the tables were suddenly turned when their ally, the fey creature Maelarth, arrived and freed them, allowing them to leap into action. John knocked over the cauldron but was trapped within a magical force cage even as the coven attempted to continue to ritual. In addition, the party found themselves betrayed by not one but two former allies; Florina, who it turns out was secretly Rhangyl's daughter and a sleeper agent for the coven, and Raewyn, a forlarren sorcerer and daughter of Harakund the Cold Rider, whom the party had previously slain. Luckily for the Adventurers, more allies have arrived in the form of the druids of the glade, following the directions from their friend Blur. As the dark fey forces and the druids clash, Moss uses his magic to help John escape his force cage while Henry engages Rhangyl directly, puncturing the evil hag's lung with a mighty thrust of Ironlaw. But much dark power is assembled against the group, as one of the sisters transforms Roisyll into a toad, and Florina holds her own against Maelarth's bestial rage. Rhangyl tells her sisters to complete the ritual, despite their concern that the final ingredient, Sonya's "sister" Stazia, has not been added. As the hag Miagolor mouths the appropriate words, the sky grows red, and the form of the being known only as the Witch Mother fills the sky. The druids respond with their own ritual, calling upon their ancient allegiance with the shambling mounds. The plant monsters rise from the waters of the swamp and rampage through the enemy forces. But it is too late. Miagolor and her sister are transformed into the Witch Mother's riders, powerful beings who serve at the right hand of the patron of all witches. But when it is Rhangyl's turn to transform, something goes wrong. Instead of transforming into a beautfiul woman atop a giant noble steed like her sisters, Rhangyl's appearance becomes even more horrific, and the beastly horse beneath her breathes fire from between it's blackened fangs. The other Witch Riders ascend to the sky to join their patron, who forswears Rhangyl as overly ambitious and not worthy of her boons. The enraged hag fights on furiously, but is overcome by the Adventurers. John insists the party should take her alive to gain information, but a new threat presents itself, as the mosquito-ridden blight which had previously only observed the combat now pulls itself up and makes its way towards Rhangyl, who cries out that Dormenxha's servant seeks vengeance for failing him. Together the party is able to destroy the blight. Meanwhile, Raewyn has fallen prey to the jaws of a summoned crocodile, and Florina surrenders, pleading mercy for her mother. As the druids mop up the last of the coven's forces, the party takes a deep breath of relief. They have won!
