The Age of Worms / The Zenith Trajectory pt. 13/ Fos the 22nd, 3593 CE / 10-3-21

General Summary

Deep in the bowels of the Bhal-Hamatugn, an ulat-kini temple, Not by Choice has been searching for the missing dwarven hero Zenith Splintershield. After having cleared out hordes of guards and evil priests, they are now searching a torture chamber beneath the temple's prison cell block. But something else is lurking in the water that fills the room, partially submerging the torture implements. It is an ulat-kini who has been risen as some form of monstrous undead, revealed fully when Nari drained the water from the room into an extradimensional pit. The monster has already felled the ratfolk alchemist Uriah, and is now in the process of throttling Milton, who has been paralyzed by the creature's terrible gaze. As Nari hurriedly begins pulling her comrades out of harm's way before her spell expires and water once more floods the room, Harrov gives a mighty swing of his hammer, obliterating the monster. The party hurriedly crosses to the other side of the room as the pit reverses and expels the water it contained. However, as they continue to follow the tunnel below the complex, they find it takes them once more back to the altar at the center of the temple, where they are rejoined by the human they had rescued, along with a gnome archaeologist named Cherrit, from the prison cells. Having only one avenue of investigation left to them, Not by Choice proceeds through a set of double doors at the southern end of the altar area's lowest level. Beyond they find an intersection of two hallways, one which leads to a watery area. Upon entering the chamber, festooned with murals depicting the life cycle of the ulat-kini, Milton and Harrov are attacked by more ulat-kini guards, as well as swarms of strange mutant fish which resemble dragons. Despite their enemies getting the drop on them initially, the party is able to dispatch both a guard and a swarm before it seems their enemies have begun to retreat. Meanwhile, the human prisoner, whom Cherrit has identified as "White Eyes," proceeds to investigate a series of alcoves to the east of the watery birthing room. Curious, the rest of the party joins him, discovering that they contain a series of craftsmen's workshops for the temple. Milton grows suspicious of Cherrit, who is heading to the last alcove, but moments later Cherrit is impaled on a spear from an unseen assailant!
