General Summary

Not By Choice is attempting to breach the Ulat-Kini ruins which serve as a lair for the Ebon Triad, who have stolen Cauldron's Sacred Wands of Water for the purpose of ransoming them back to the city even as the water level rises, threatening disaster. As Milton and Scrimshander evade arrows and pit traps, they open a door to reveal a large workroom occupied by a devilish being eating spiders, who asks if they are there on behalf of "Grehlia." The pair attack, the devil transforms into a monstrous snake with a head on each end of its body. With a mighty strike, Milton banishes the creature back to the Abyss, leaving behind its magical cloak. As Nari frees herself from the spike trap in the side chamber, and inner door opens revealing guards! Hand to hand combat breaks out, as Milton, Scrimshander and Marrow take on the guards while Nari investigates the rooms on the other side of the arrow slits, where she is attacked and almost killed before being rescued by Kade. As four guards are slain, the remainder flee. In the aftermath of the battle, Lulu investigates the strange metallic components in the workroom and Nari deduces the nature of the trap that almost took her leg.
