Strange Aeons / The Rushton Terror pt. 3 / Eire the 10th, 3592 CE / 6-23-20

General Summary

At Sleepless Hall, the home of retired watcher Cassandra Wren, Hemlock, Esp, and Garrok finish telling the tale of their experiences at Stonebriar Asylum. Cassandra seems especially interested in their companion Kingfisher, who she reveals is actually a wanted criminal named Viktor Demain, an investigator who went rogue and murdered prominent members of the House Medrani. She also warns the party of the troubles facing Rushton, including the recent disappearances, the strange graffiti of an alien city-scape that has appeared on Rushton's buildings, and the recent influx of well-dressed travelers who eventually make their way to Orchid Hill, the familial manor of Baron Haver Lowell IV. She thanks the party for calming down the doomsayer Elgris Nesmith, saying that since both the Baron and the local militia in Fort Hailstorm have shuttered their doors to outsiders, the ever-increasingly nervous populace of Rushton have been turning to her more and more for aid. Though she has little more she can offer the party in assistance at this time, Cassandra urges them to keep her abreast of any updates regarding the strange goings-on in Rushton. As they are leaving Sleepless Hall, the halfling watcher Pike also advises the party to be wary of the ghost of an old woman who has been seen roaming the streets of Rushton at night, though it is difficult to determine if she means this in jest. The party decides to make their next stop the old pier, known as Worm's Hook, where Hemlock's friend Kendrick previously told the party he had seen the investigator stash something. As they pass through the fishing district, the party notes all is quiet as the fishing fleet is currently out on the water. When they reach Worm's Hook, Garrok brashly heads to the end of the pier, only to suddenly disappear from sight through the rotting planks. The party discovers to their horror that he is being attacked by a bizarre aberration known as a gibbering mouther, which whispers thoughts of madness in their minds as it attempts grapple and consume the hobgoblin brawler.
