Strange Aeons / The Rushton Terror pt. 28 / Eire the 12th, 3592 CE / 4-28-21

General Summary

The party stands over the disgusting body of an undead monstrosity, one who head just exploded from Esp Platyrhynchos's psychic blasts. They are in the library of Orchid Hill, the manor of Baron Haver Lowell IV. All evidence has lead them to this place being the source of the troubles plaguing the seaside town of Rushton, troubles such as citizens disappearing, including Maeve Trelawney, local priestess of Accuris, and Thorgrim Copperman, cousin to party-member Gleorn Bearheart. If it were not bad enough that the now absent Baron had erased the memories of his former employees Esp and Hemlock Shores and had them interred at Stonebriar Asylum, his estate appears to be harboring dangerous cultists of Hastur, along with cannibals and bizarre, otherworldly creatures. The party's moment of triumph over the latest monster they have encountered at Orchid Hill is interrupted by the sound of slow clapping. They turn to see a woman standing at the top of the stairs leading from the library to the manor house's second story. She introduces herself as Rissa Nair, assistant to the manor's current caretaker, Melissa Korova, and accuses the party of trespassing, demanding they leave Orchid Hill. But the part stands firm in their convictions, and a fight breaks out with Rissa and the invisible cultists she has stationed around the library. Despite her use of a wand of invisibility, Gleorn is able to cut down the treacherous Rissa with a devastating stroke that severs the assassin's arm, killing her, even as Trakir slays one cultist and Garrok knocks another unconscious, reasoning with unusual clarity (until he admits the advice came from the voices in his head), that a living prisoner may help them more than a dead one.
