Strange Aeons / Dreams of the Yellow King pt. 9 / Eire the 24th through 25th, 3592 CE / 7-7-22

General Summary

In the Forsaken Caravanserai of the Dreamlands, the party, along with their new companion Zolkri, search for answers. For Esp and Hemlock, it is the restoration of their memories. For Trakir Firebrand, it is the location of the madman Baron Haver Lowell IV who has left so much death and destruction in the wake of his search for occult secrets. And for Zolkri, it is a cure to the visions which have plagued him since childhood. As they ascend the stairs to the second story of the caravanserai, they encounter one who may provide answers, or perhaps only more questions. Stepping into an ornate office, they encounter a man who is the spitting image of the Baron, but dressed oddly, in yellow drapes made to look like kingly robes. With much suspicion they question the man, who goes by the moniker "The Yellow King," discovering that he is in fact a dream splinter, an aspect of the Baron's personality left behind in the Dreamlands on one of the Baron's many sojourns. The Yellow King appears to be a more benevolent aspect of the Baron's psyche, and is eager to help the party in their quest for answers, disavowing himself of the Baron's thoughtless and malicious actions. The Yellow King informs the party their best chance of receiving help is to seek the aid of the same being whom the Baron came seeking in the Dreamlands, a powerful but fickle creature called the Mad Poet. The Yellow King advises the party that like the Baron, they must bring rare gifts to the Mad Poet in order to request his aid, but luckily, the Baron kept a list of possible items in one of his books. The party resolves to return to waking and research the large cache of books Esp recovered from Orchid Hill. The Yellow King tells them that once they have the rare items they seek, he will lead them to the Mad Poet. Before returning to waking, the party confers with Zolkri, and learns that his physical body resides in a place called Riverton. When they awake, Esp relays the details of their strange encounters to her fellow scholars, Reuben and Gossamer, and they search for the book containing the key to the location of the gifts. Esp also asks Rough Dog about Riverton, which Hemlock recalls in flash of memory is on their path through Lake Encarthan. Rough Dog says Riverton is not normally a stop on the Starling's route, but that he will talk to the captain about making an accomodation. Meanwhile the party has located the book they seek, but discover that in addition to a list of possible gifts for the Mad Poet, it contains a key for locating the other books necessary to research each gift. The next day is spent poring through the books until correct resources can be located, and now the work of researching must begin.
