Strange Aeons / Dreams of the Yellow King pt. 16 / Galen the 1st through the 2nd, 3592 CE / 9-15-22

General Summary

Esp, Zolkri, and Mason awake in the berth of The Starling, their minds awash from the horror which they just witnessed, a Leng spider, a creature out of pure nightmare. They relay to their fellow dream travelers, Hemlock and Trakir, that the Viscount's signet ring has been secured, as Esp attempts to explain some of the metaphysical aspects of the Dreamlands to Mason. All settle down to sleep, but the restless Mason exits the berth after a time to see to it that The Starling is ship-shape, disregarding the danger of nightgaunts or other enemies which may set upon him in the dark. In the morning the sailors emerge from below-decks to admire Mason's work, though there is a brief altercation that the Captain must settle when one of the sailors insults Mason's inhuman appearance. Zolkri gets to work using his alchemist's kit to transform some of the flowers he purchased in Dabril into a sleeping draught for Trakir, who thankfully was able to get a full night's sleep the night before. Meanwhile the scholars Reuben and Gossamer aid Hemlock in continuing his research into the ghoul prince's skull, the next Dreamlands artifact the party set their sights on collecting for the Mad Poet. As the sun grows low in the sky, the party spies a trio of bedraggled looking nobles standing on the shore of the Corwyn side of the river. They plead for help in transporting them to safety. Captain Fred is inclined to bring them aboard in order to impress them into service or at least squeeze a decent fee from them, but the courtiers inform the crew of The Starling is the protection of their lord, Count Emilio Demaine, whom they have stashed in a barn just up the hill. The party recognizes the Count's name from their confrontation the day prior with Captain Glower and her fellow agents of the local warlord, Baron Morcar. Mason agrees to go ashore and retrieve the Count, but after he sneaks his way into the barn and locates the noble, Zolkri hears the sound of approaching hoof beats, and shouts out a warning that the nobles' pursuers are almost upon them. As one of the courtiers hurries up the hill to warn Mason and Count Demaine, Captain Glower and her men crest the hill, setting their sights on making sure the Count and his courtiers never leave Corwyn. At the sight of the Grey Lady, Zolkri's blood boils, and he prepares to join the fray.
