Devarish
The Devarish culture is thought to predate even that of Nalizant, though it is telling that it was ultimately the Nalizanti and not the Devarish who became the predominant culture of Aleria. This is mostly due to the inherent Devarish mistrust of anything resembling authority or government. Much like the Arqadians, the Devarish are nomadic by nature, though the purpose of a Devarish caravan is not to escape a harsh physical environment, but a harsh cultural one, as many have taken the Devarish unwillingness to form societies or assimilate into the dominate culture as inherently untrustworthy, and thus Devarish frequently find themselves persecuted in their travels.
Devarish legend claims that, in the days of the Ancient Empire, they were once mighty nomadic warriors, but that unlike other nomadic cultures who fought the Empire and lost, the Devarish used their wits, laying low, plying their trade, and moving on whenever trouble reared its ugly head.
Though today the land of Devarin bears their name, that country is merely a puppet government controlled by Xeliash, and the Devarish people themselves continue to claim allegiance to no nation. The Devarish value freedom from any restrictions to their movement or choices.
Devarish tend to make excellent rogues, bards, and sorcerers.
