Aleria Campaign / The Seekers / Special Delivery / Kahn the 16th, 3593 CE / 5-28-22

General Summary

A team of Seekers have been dispatched from Lokar to the nation of Rodalt by Lieutenant Sloanan to aid a Seeker agent named Muesello. Muesello is a famed maker of wayfinders, a device highly sought after by Seekers in the field, and has requested aid in an urgent matter. The Seeker team arrives in the ancient city of Porthos and meets with Muesello at his shop, Rods and Reels. There he informs them that he has been attempting to avoid the high tariff's the Grand Prince of Rodalt has placed on exporting antiquities by using a local cult, the Sunblossoms, as couriers into the bordering nation of Arqadin. A Sunblossom meeting house was recently raided by militia lead by a minor noble, Dalton Chalfine, who once aspired to join the Seekers himself. Muesello tells the assembled Seekers that in addition to slaughtering the cultists, who worship Sainte Vespelia, considered heretical in the strictly orthodox nation of Rodalt, the militia made off with 2 crates of Muesello's wayfinders slated for shipment out of the country. Muesello is telling the party he fears they will be traced back to him when there is a banging on the door to his shop and the sound of Porthos militia demanding entrance. Muesello stalls the guards while informing the Seekers that 10 of the surviving Sunblossoms are hiding upstairs and imploring them to help the women escape using a secret entrance to the Catacombs in his basement. The Seekers leap into action. As Astrid the cleric and Khorven the fighter help to barricade the door, Sticks the rogue runs up stairs to tell the girls. Mcduffen the bard readies a performance if necessary to aid his comrades. The militia begin using a battering ram as Muesello casts a spell to further impede them, telling the party that he will hold the militia men off while they escape. As the last of the Sunblossoms and the party reach the Catacombs, Sticks pulls the level Muesello installed to collapse the stairwell behind them, sealing them in. One of the Sunblossoms, Sophox, tells the party she knows the way through the catacombs to an ancient temple of Vespelia where they will be safe. As they traverse the twisting passages, they are ambushed by a giant black widow spider, who manages to bite and envenom both Khorven and one of the Sunblossoms. The party is aided by a local Seeker, Snake Hands, who Muesello had previously sent into the Catacombs, anticipating the evening's turn of events. Together they defeat the spider, and, after another hour of travel, find themselves at the underground Vault of Vespelia, where they are greeted by Arruket, the temple's caretaker. After aiding the party, he shares some knowledge of Dalton Chalfine, the assailant who lead the assault against the Sunflowers and now holds Muesello's wayfinders. But Sticks grows suspicious when Arruket seems in a hurry for the Seekers to leave and confronts him. It is then that the caretaker reveals his true identity as a faceless stalker and attacks the party. After a brief battle they are able to overcome the monster before it can drain the bard Mcduffin's blood. They discover the true Arruket's corpse along with a few more items. The distraught Sunblossoms state that with the Vault of Vespelia compromised, their only hope now is to flee Rodalt for Arqadin, using the route by which they have been moving Muesello's goods out of the country. Faced with the choice of aiding the Sunblossoms in their journey or going after the missing crates, the Seeker party chooses the former, resting in the underground temple before setting out on the next leg of their adventure.
