Aleria Campaign / Doomsday Dawn / When the Stars Go Dark pt. 4/ Bris the 30th through Bora the 1st, 3592 CE 3/10/19

General Summary

Gray Vengeance has just defeated a shoggoth, one of several elder creatures from the Deep Dominion sent to guard Lochmar's ancient workshop, and the veinstone pendulum, from outsiders. Deciding to protect their flank before proceeding forward, the team investigates one of the sets of double doors leading to an antechamber. They discover a repository of Deep Dominion artifacts, including a countdown clock. Believing that it may grant them some level of protection, Rindas convinces Mors to attempt to steal the item from its display case. Unfortunately, doing so sets off an ancient trap, afflicting everyone with a devastating mind quake, one which Rindas and Jean are at risk of never being able to recover from. The party secures themselves in the repository to rest and recover. When they are of clearer heads, Rindas uses the Wish she was granted by the powers of the White Axiom to attempt to remove the permanent state of confusion that has befallen her and Jean. Though Jean manages to regain most of his wits, it becomes apparent that the Wish was not entirely effective on Rindas, who still finds herself succumbing to uncontrollable rages and lashing out at her companions in times of stress and combat. Investigating the other antechamber reveals a malfunctioning arcane vortex and trans-dimensional space that may have functioned as Lochmar's own version of Jean's magnificent mansion spell, though none trust the ancient wizard's intentions enough to try it out. The party is finally ready to proceed through main doors of Lochmars workshop, revealing a sprawling laboratory at the end of which they find the veinstone pendulum suspended above a platform also made of the strange green stone. The chamber is guarded by an ancient green dragon named Atapax and several aliens of the Deep Dominion. Though the dragon seems initially friendly, it soon becomes apparent that being left on his own in the Hallow for so long has driven him mad, and a vicious combat breaks out, which only ends with the death of Atapax and the alien guards. The party begins the dyschronization ritual, causing the veinstone pendulum to lash out in an attempt to protect itself and its mission. It soon becomes apparent that the ritual is working as great forces rip through the workshop, causing it to temporarily merge with Nocturne. Unfortunately, this allows Lochmar to reveal himself in his true monstrous form. Before he can destroy the party, they complete the ritual, halting the coming doom, and leaving Lochmar stranded on Nocturne. Their ten year mission finally completed, Gray Vengeance returns to their homeworld using the plane shift ritual of the veinstone pyramid. There they are greeted by their trusty guide Brack, who leads them out of the desert of Nosirios and back to civilization.
