General Summary

Vercingetorix, his pride still stinging from his failure at Veimhand, has joined the Gatekeepers, sworn guardians of The Gate, the ancient magical seal which prevents the forces of The Abyss from pouring through The Demonscar, an inter-dimensional rift which opened in Mournveil thousands of years ago during the Last War of the Ancients. His squad, consisting of a paladin named Garrus, two clerics, Gwenda and Talia, and a sorcerer named Herman, have been tasked with assisting none other than his old teammates, Gray Vengeance, who have traveled to the region of The Gate seeking an ancient site called The Temple of Underhill. There they hope to find The White Axiom, an ancient and arcane formula vital to their mission of stopping an invasion of Aleria by the forces of the Deep Dominion. Vercingetorix and his squad will serve as guards for Gray Vengeance's expedition deep into the territory surrounding The Gate. The Demonscar has been sealed for thousands of years, though demonic forces do occasionally seep through, making the region highly dangerous. After 5 days of travel, they reach Underhill. Once a site holy to the ancient pagan religions before the days of the Empire, a temple to the Stars had been built on the ancient ruins after the founding of the First Church of the Celestial. However, since the opening of the Demonscar, even that temple had been abandoned and fallen to ruins. Gray Vengeance's quest will take them to a cavern deep beneath the temple, from whence it gets its name. They descend into the ancient catacombs, relying on the Gatekeepers to secure the grounds and protect their flank while they search for the White Axiom. Gwenda can already tell that the desecrated graveyard could be a source of restless spirits. However, she also discovers one remaining stained glass window in the temple, which, when lit by a spell, grants blessings upon the party. Vercingetorix, investigating the altar, finds that some holy power remains there as well. Having scoped out the temple grounds, the Gatekeepers spread out and prepare for the worst.
