Aleria Campaign / Doomsday Dawn / Red Flags pt. 4 / 3591 CE / 7-09-19

General Summary

In the inner sanctum of the Talon Citadel, the agents of the Eon Eye have discovered a secret door in the nesting room of the tengu, Captain Wharfin. They follow it down to another chamber, with three force portals barring the way further. After some experimenting, Gubbins successfully passes through a force door, but Gwen is flung violently back against the metal spikes on the opposite wall, and Dorzha fares little better. Gubbins deduces the secret of the force portals' shifting pattern, but just as he shares it, the previously unseen Nelcerion, hidden with a magical spell, thanks them for solving the riddle before attacking. A pitched battle ensues, as Nelcerion assaults the party with dark magic, but after being bombarded with Gubbins' bombs, the evil leader of the Harbingers flees back down the tunnel. While Gwen and Dorzha pursue him, Gubbins continues deeper into the inner sanctum in search of the Last Theorem. As Nelcerion falls with a final burst of magical energy, Gubbins avoids the water trap in one room, and deftly dodges the magical Darkside Mirrors in another, finally arriving in a sea cave where the vault containing the Last Theorem rests atop a high stone pillar. Making his way to an adjacent ledge, Gubbins attempts to leap across, but loses his footing, slipping into the water. There he discovers to his dismay that Wharfin's pet kraken is chained to the pillar, as it drags him down. But the kraken has a nasty surprise in store when it attempts to eat the goblin, setting off many of his bombs, As Gubbins has developed a natural immunity to his own formulae, he survives the explosion which causes the kraken to release him. Scrambling back up the pillar, he tries once again to leap over to the vault, this time successfully. Meanwhile, in the hall of Darkside Mirrors, Dorzha steps in front of one of the evil arcane devices and finds herself sucked inside, trapped inside the alternate dimension of the mirror, and replaced in this plane with her Darkside duplicate. When Gwen follows her into the room, Darkside Dorzha forces her in front of another mirror, and Gwen is likewise trapped in the mirror dimension. The two Darkside duplicates, having the full memories of their counterparts, agree that it is in their best interest for now to complete the mission to retrieve the Last Theorem and avert Doomsday. They find Gubbins, who has successfully broken into the magical vault holding the Last Theorem, and the three make their way out of the Talon Citadel's inner sanctum after discovering a secret tunnel to the surface. Returning to Razorport, the Last Theorem is delivered safely to the Order, after which Dorzha and Gwen mysteriously disappear, though there are rumors not soon after of trouble in the village of Vaskalia.
