The Adventurers Guild
In Gods We Mistrust, All Others Pay Cash
I believe in a world where we control our destinies. Where our lives are not forfeit at the whims of an immortal being, our destinies are not defined by the bestowment of a magical gift, our births not ordained by a daemonic pact, or celestial bargain, to be redeemed like fairground tokens at an appointed moment. We are the masters of our own destinies, we shall shape the world into something beautiful and we shall show the Gods: We do not need Them!
Overview
If you are reading this then you are most likely already a member of the guild, or inclined to join, I heartily recommend that you do! The Adventurers Guild takes on all sorts: From gleaming heroes clad in plate armor to silver tongued nobles dressed in the finest imported silks; from street smart masters of the urban jungle, to those who would brave the wildest frontiers. What is important is that they all want to change the world for the better. The guild has no place for those who would pervert the cause to their own selfish ends, or those who wish to see the world burn, just for the spectacle. Those with such intents, or those who fall prey to such whims, are quickly excised from the guild like malignant tumors, their names struck from records and their bodies unceremoniously disposed of along with the rest of the refuse of civilization.Points of Interest
Smithy
The Adventurers Guild (AG) smithy is a bastion of creation and innovation. Half built, often temperamental (sometimes dangerous), machines lie mid-assembly in the process of being tinkered with. The smell of burnt Aether wafts through the air and the warmth of the furnace is overpowering to any accustomed to colder climates. The smithy is run by a gnome called Cherry Brightspark (Female Gnome Commoner). She sells a variety of gear and could perhaps be persuaded to buy any rare or interesting magical/engineering items.
The smithy can be used for repairs or crafting and is assumed to have a full set of whatever tools are needed.
Herbalist and Potion Seller
The AG Herbalist hut is a bastion of nature within a compound of military pragmatism. Hanging baskets overflow with all manner of plants; herbs and flowers intermingle and the smells linger in the nostrils, reminding you of a summer meadow crossed with a botanist. The AG’s resident herbalist is Bellamy Arutan (Gender-Neutral Elf Commoner). Bellamy sells a range of potions from the common to uncommon, and occasionally rare.
The herb garden is accessible to all AG members who may take freely for personal use.
Library
Though there are various collections of books through the AG, there is no collection quite as deeply steeped in magic as there is in the towering library. From the forbidden lore books recovered from distant lands kept secured in the basement, to the active research lab at the top of the tower. The rest of the structure is packed wall to wall with arcane knowledge and is open to any AG members who wish to engage in research.
Though not officially the librarian, Dennis Longfellow (Male Half Elf Wizard) spends every moment he is not away on AG business cloistered within the walls conducting research and furthering his arcane knowledge.
Mess Hall
A huge hall with relatively low ceilings, the well worn cobblestones underfoot speak to the near constant foot traffic it has had over the last decade. The mess hall is constantly full of movement; snippets of songs sung by bards can be heard, interspersed with laughter, cheers, and exclamations. Arm wrestling matches and drinking contests paint their tableau across the social landscape of the hall, and the scent of hot food and hearty drinks fills the nostrils of any who walk inside. The AG mess hall is the center of the adventurers community. A place where stories can be swapped, new allies found, and a hearty (and very reasonably priced) meal can be had. The mess hall is run by Oblib Thricetun (Male Halfling Commoner).
Gymnasium/Training Ground
A spartan building, populated with balancing beams, gymnastic horses, climbing poles, and hanging ropes, stands at the front of a large dirt opening. The clang of metal and the shouts of battle can be heard within the cool walls of the main structure while rogues, rangers, and other more subtle folk move silently between the rafters and around the complex itself. The AG gymnasium and training ground is designed to test the strength, constitution, and dexterity of some of the best warriors in the world. It is overseen by drill sergeant Ayoade (Male Human Monk).
Temple
The first thing anyone notices when entering the temple is the overwhelming smells of incense. Shrines to each of the 7 Good-aligned gods are arrayed at the far end, with Moradin taking pride of place and flanked by two doors leading to a rear vestibule. There is plenty of space to pray, with pews and prayer mats filling the rest of the open interior.Bali Lightfoot (Female Dwarf Cleric) runs this small temple sanctuary that is open to all.
Ursula’s Office, Armory, and Staff Quarters
The Guild itself is run by Ursula Blightbane (Female Human Fighter). Ursula’s right-hand-man is Svend Iceblade (Male Half-Orc Barbarian), who acts as captain of the guard, bodyguard, and confidant to Ursula. In the event that Ursula is incapacitated or unavailable, Svend is the second-in-command of the Adventurers Guild. The day-to-day running of the Adventurers Guild is a non-stop affair. Missives and requests arrive daily and must be dispatched in due haste. For time critical emergencies, a scrying pool is used to transmit live information between distant locations.Dungeons & Spymaster
The AG Dungeons are designed to temporarily house anyone who is required to be brought in alive to satisfy a contract. The dungeons are humane, intended to keep residents confined, but alive, rather than inflict any kind of suffering or misery on them. There is no torture room or equipment, but the Spymaster can be very persuasive.Though not responsible for overseeing the dungeon (this technically falls under Svend’s remit), the Spymaster has her study adjacent to the dungeons; to avoid prying eyes, and to have easy access to prisoners who may have information. The Spymaster is Isotil Nailo (Female Drow Rogue).
