There is nothing more Lawful or Neutral than a machine. It has no choice but to obey it's fundamental commands and it has no soul for which to care for Good or Evil. Whether this makes it better or worse than a sentient creature is a subject long debated.

Overview
On Mechanus, law is reflected in a realm of clockwork gears, all interlocked and turning according to their measure. The cogs seem to be engaged in a calculation so vast that no deity can fathom its purpose. Mechanus embodies absolute order, and its influence can be felt on those who spend time here.
Inhabitants
Modrons are the primary inhabitants of Mechanus. The plane is also home to the creator of the modrons: Ioun , Goddess of Knowledge.
Many an artisan or engineer, often Dwarven or Gnomish, has come to mechanics seeking knowledge. Though many have come, few have ever left with the knowledge they seek, often being pulled into the great puzzle that Mechanicus was built to solve.
