Aetheric Gates

An Aetheric Gate, or simply a Gate, is a large device introduced in and widely used during the Agaletian Era to transport large amounts of personnel and supplies. The Aetheric Gate was using an Aetheric Manifold, which allowed it to use the latent energy of the Aethergrande to power itself.

Access & Availability

Because of the size of the Gates and the skill required for use, only an organisation as far-reaching and well-resourced as the Agaletian Empire could manage the Gate network, and all of the infrastructural necessities brought by the installation of one. Transport was made available to citizens of the Empire at times when the Gate could be safely left open, but this was heavily policed and costs for citizens to move using the gates were expensive, minimizing its general use.

Complexity

Aetheric Gates were giant pieces of machinery, and required capable engineers to manage and control it. Operation of a gate was a task best left to experienced engineers, but control and management of the Gate network was arcane even to them, and the secrets of how to maintain the stability of the network vanished after the fall of Valetempo.

Discovery

Researchers discovered the technology required to harness aetheric energy in vast quantities in c. PHY 1500 (shortly after Agaletia declared itself an Empire), and were able to bring this research to bear for mass transport a few years later.
