Session 6 Recap - "A VERY Angry Mage, Elder Goddesses and Bugs" - Mar 8 to Mar 10, 999
General Summary
Game time Mar 8 to Mar 10
Poliel's Temple
The session began with the party at the entrance to the Poliel's Temple.
Before entering into the first room they could see, Dutch tossed in his cooking pot. This alerted several comatose skeletons who arose and attacked. They were relatively easy to manage (despite one of them throwing Dutch's pot back at him).
They entered and headed to the northern portion of the temple and them up some stairs to a room that had a strangely preserved look about it. They (unnecessarily) released a flesh golem from a closet and fought it. During the fight, Genevieve found a totem of sorts that calmed it down. However, they were forced to kill the golem once it became enraged when Dutch fiddled with the attached teddy bear.
Out of danger, they scoured the room for information and discovered that it had been used for a long while by Kallor Eiderann Tes'thesula. He left some notes behind. Despite Genevieve's best efforts at keeping them for herself, the party did mange to read or hear about them, including Arya. They also collected several magic items, scrolls, a vicious dagger and an adamantine rapier.
They left that room and entered the main temple chamber. Arya triggered the awakening of a number of armored suits and more slowly some petrified zombies that were at the feet of a large status of Poliel, Elder Goddess of Pestilence. During this fight, the status briefly came to life and touched Dutch. He received a vision and later, told the party that he had been selected as the Mortal Sword for the Elder Gods (or at least for Poliel). It is unclear what that exactly means at this time.
Having cleared the main temple chamber and collecting gems, coin and other assorted treasures, they headed to the eastern part of the temple, up some stairs and found the final resting place of Aranatha. Riley triggered a small fight with a guardian animated armor when he tried to enter Aranatha's tomb itself. The party successfully fought this off. Arya broke a warded display case when she turned into her beast form but did not trigger the ward by doing so. Later, she opened another warded display case with no problem.
They examined Aranatha, who had a very preserved look about her, though she had clearly died from some sickness as she had a very thin, almost malnourished look about her.
Everyone noted that Aranatha had a striking appearance to Arya herself.
Arya spent a few moments with Aranatha until Dutch distracted her with food (or tried to, anyway). They left the tomb room.
They explored the final section of temple to the southeast where they discovered, fought and killed an ochre jelly, a baby mimic and a carrion crawler. During the fight, Fi was covered in carrion crawler guts and Arya, already distraught from earlier discoveries and frustrated by mimics and the like, lost her temper.
Dutch discovered the mother mimic but they decided to live and let live and departed the temple.
They returned to their new home in Radivant.
