Session 4 Recap - "Thwarting a Kidnapping"

General Summary

In-game Date Feb 21 - Mar 3 11 days passed   The party began this period at the Cat's Claw Inn. Arya slipped away for 3 days in a panther form. She located and investigated the entrance to an ancient temple to Poliel, Elder Goddess of Pestilence.   Fi disappeared as well for a few days and upon returning to the party, she had learned a few new bard tricks after spending quality time with a new mentor.   Riley, Genevieve and Dutch each spent time studying their craft in pursuit of learning new skills that came with their newfound experience.   The mystery of the Silver Tower eating away at them, the party decided to investigate. Dutch had an idea that if he could put holy water into the basin, it might lead to something interesting. He led the party to Burn, Elder Goddess of Earth's temple, which was nearby, and purchased holy water from a priest there for 25gp.   They went to the tower and placed the holy water in the basin. To their surprise, the holy water boiled and evaporated away in mere moments.   Arya, who feels a particularly strong connection to the Tower, cut her hand allowed some of her blood to drip into the basin (much to Dutch's surprised). Similar to the holy water, Arya's blood boiled away, but she was also healed!   The party tried various other combinations of fluids and magics:
  • Dutch layed on hands (twice) and each time, the healing energy was pushed back at him with some force.
  • Geneveive put poison into the basin. It was apparently turned to water (though no one wanted to test it).
  • Dutch used his divine sense to see if he could identify anything about the tower and felt a nearly perfect balance between dark and good.
During their experimentation, they discovered that only Arya seemed to be healed by the tower.   Avull received a vision. But sadly, as it turned out, she never had a chance to share it with the party.   Frustrated, but knowing more facts about the Tower, the party returned to the Cat's Claw Inn and continued their personal path toward improvement, gathering rumors and preparing for noble party thrown by Folduin Faepetor for his daughter Immianthe Faepetor.   Decked out in their finest garb, they walked to the Faepetor's home. Dutch and Avull played a game (poorly) with Captain Bridgestone of Kupptown. Tattersail took Dutch and Avull both aside and rewarded them with 25gp for their good work in Radivant, spreading good deeds on behalf of the White Council. They also discussed their experience with the Tower. Tattersail was particularly interested in the fact that Arya received some healing from the tower but then brushed it off as if it was actually a minor fact.   Riley, Arya and Genevieve met and spoke at length with the Princess Faepetor. She was fascinated and skeptical that the two women had been eaten by toads and didn't really buy their story. Eventually, she brought Riley and Genevieve to meet an amateur historian (who also claimed to be a sorcerer) named Eldaerenth Gracebow. Eldearenth answered questions about Kallor Eiderann Tes'thesula (who Genevieve keeps bring up in conversation for some reason). Eldearenth, unlike Tattersail, indicated that Kallor was a very powerful mage and that he was part of a circle of friends that included a warrior mage named Bellurdan Skullcrusher and another mage named Nightchill ("Sister of Cold Nights").   They wrapped up that conversation and returned the dance floor where Fi had been playing … suspiciously well.   After a bit more of general carousing, city-wide alarms started to go off. This proved to be a major distraction for the noble's party overall and many of the guards, who went to investigate. Meanwhile, Immianthe had gone outside to the garden for some fresh air where her guards were attacked and someone was trying to kidnap her!   Dutch leaped through a window and the rest of the party quickly followed to try and rescue the princess. It turned out that Fi's suspiciously good playing had charmed several people in the room and she ordered them to follow and assist.   During this fight, the party encountered:
  • Gor'Gorath - a demon from Balakesh - most likely stranded in An'Eshel after the Rift war.
  • Lesser Grievecrackles - demons under Gor'gorath's command.
  • A kind of flying beast (horse like)
  • A human who was left behind and captured by the party.
This was the party's most difficult challenge to date. The Princess was nearly taken, but the successful and timely casting of Crown of Madness and Hold Person by Arya and Genevieve enabled the Princess to escape from Gor'Gorath's clutches. She feel from a great height but Avull was able to catch her and save her from injury or worse.   Gor'Gorath escaped.   Misery in Riley's hands seemed to surge with anger when confronted by demons.   The session ends with the party in possession of a demonic horse creature surrounded by the corpses of guards and unlucky party goers. The princess is in Avull's care, but she's understandably hysterical.
