Session 2 - Fi - "Spiders and Frogs and CROCODILES and More Spiders, Oh My!"

Fi’s Diary, Part 2
Today was a rough day! But it was super fun.
We all wanted to go to the mines to help the miners with some kind of unknown danger. They were going missing lately. We met a dwarf guy named Mr. Largeaxe (Tukraes Largeaxe) who seemed to run a lot of the mining stuff, and he told us what we could do. Turns out there was a huge reward for solving the problem! 400 gold pieces! I didn’t even know people HAD that kind of money. But unfortunately, we had to pay 100 gold pieces up front in case the adviser who went with us got hurt. And, obviously, we didn’t have it at first.
Genevieve said she knew a guy who loaned money named Mr. Tagtaw (Beneth Tagtaw). I thought Genevieve was cool already, but she seems like she knows a lot of people too! And they all seem like they hold a high opinion of her. Not only that, but she knows about the higher-ups in the city way more than I do. She must be so responsible and friendly! I wanna be more like her one day! Then I could get along with so many more people.
Anyway, the money-loaning guy actually wasn’t there, and his business had some terms that we didn’t really like, so we were kinda stuck. That is, until quiet Arya went and whipped out 100 gold pieces on the spot! I mean really, from out of nowhere! I guess she didn’t want to tell us she had that much. People with a lot of money usually get robbed and stuff. And she might be the richest person in the world if 100 was no big deal!
So then, we were able to pay Mr. Largeaxe for the expedition. The adviser that followed us to make sure we did a good job was Ms. Beasthide (Vogditelyn Beasthide), another dwarf. She seems like an okay lady. I’m sure there’s something awesome about her, like everyone, but she hasn’t done much yet.
We went to the mine with her and started going deep into the cave. It was my first time ever being in a cave like that, and boy was it scary! Thankfully though, Dutch and Riley took the lead of the group. We eventually found this weird tiny tunnel that didn’t look like miners made it. We squeezed through, and it opened up into a gigantic, super cool, glowing-plant-filled cavern! Meanwhile, Arya and Avull disappeared somewhere.
There were all these shiny purple gems on the walls, and Genevieve tried to take one with her dagger. She accidentally stabbed herself though. Kinda funny.
What wasn’t funny at all, though, were the giant man-eating frogs that appeared next. And what was even LESS funny was that a spider crawled in my clothes somewhere! I tried shaking it off, but it wasn’t working, and then when I tried to ask my friends for help they were too busy fighting those stupid frogs that I got really angry and said some pretty mean things to the frogs. They probably didn’t understand what I was saying, but I found out that I actually feel really good when I make insults like that. Not at my friends, of course, but yelling at monsters that are attacking us feels pretty good! Especially when I started crying because of the spider... I can’t believe I actually cried. I have to grow up so people don’t think I’m childish. I think adults insult people a lot, so I’m pretty sure I’m off to a good start!
The spider finally got off me at some point, thank goodness. After that, I could focus on fighting the frogs. Riley started speaking in a really weird, legato-sounding language (I’m really not sure how else to describe it) while he was slashing around. I don’t know if the words did anything, but it was cool anyway. I wanna learn how to speak whatever language that was someday! If I can speak every language, I can make the most friends.
After a little fighting, Arya came back and joined! Avull showed up too, and actually started helping us kill stuff. That surprised me!
But then, the frogs started trying to eat us. Before we knew it, Arya was swallowed by the biggest one! I think it tried to eat too much though, because after eating Arya, it threw up an ENTIRE LIVE GIANT CROCODILE. Or alligator. I don’t really know the difference. But ANYWAY. A WHOLE CROCODILE. No wonder it was such a big frog!
I have to admit, our knew foe was really scary, but I couldn’t stay in the back lines anymore when my friends were in such a predicament. Quite courageously, I engaged the crocodile in life-threatening hand-to-claw combat. My friends stood aside and beheld my new surprising prowess on the battlefield, and I rent the monster’s flesh with my blade. It was so scared of me, it ran off! Take that, I say. Fi saved the day!
The others dealt with the big frog. It must have actually thrown up Arya earlier, too, though, because she wasn’t there when we killed it. She must have been washed downstream (oh yeah, there was a stream in the cave) because she came back later. Everyone was safe!
We gathered some of those cool purple gems and went to another part of the mine. Avull showed us the way to some place she explored earlier on her own, where there was some Dwarven writing on the wall. I remember it said something about it being a dead end, and that someone could jump off the Silver Tower if they wanted. I don’t think the miners like their job much. I don’t blame them.
Then, we went another direction until we found another section of the mine. This time, there were giant spider webs. I still get the chills thinking about it. One of their babies must have been the one crawling down my back. Ugh. Anyway, to make a long story short, we killed the giant spiders (thank goodness Dutch and Riley covered the front). Of course, I yelled at the spiders a lot and it felt really good. More importantly, we found a ton of dead bodies in the back of the cave... but one survivor! We managed to calm him down and get him out safely.
Having finished our mission, we decided to start on the way back home. I think it was a job well done! Now, we’re resting at the waypoint between here and town. On to tomorrow!
