From her perspective: "My parents sent me off to a sort of hippie plantation kinda thing for kids that have too much energy and not enough self-control or whatever when I was seventeen. When I got there, I helped to farm and also spent a lot of time with everyone learning to play instruments and dance and sing and we would even travel as a troupe sometimes to go make money to earn our keep. The other people there weren't super nice to me, though, and said I talked too much or was a ditz or wasn't very good at the pan-flute or whatever, even though I'm really good at the pan-flute. Even though they were kinda mean I stayed there for five whole years until the owners said they were shutting it down and moving to Solace to retire, so I hitched a ride with someone that promised me money and hoped I'd find adventure and maybe some friends, too."
If we ever meet the parents, who I think she's tried to write letters to but hasn't heard back from since then, I think either they sent her off to avoid the skeezy people in town who were likely to try to take advantage of her, or heard about a place that took "troubled teens" and put them to work/gave them "life skills". When it closed down, she just.... had no idea what to do because it was her little world for so long and she didn't like it but also hadn't considered being able to or having to leave. She found a few places to stay or ways to make money mostly by flirting her way around towns, and then met the lovely guy on the wagon that dropped us here. Anything with the parents re: what happened to them after is totally your call to have fun with and sprinkle in if you'd ever like to!
