Patron Gods

Patak Draken

The term "patron god" is frequently used across Talrak with two meanings, both conveying the same concept: Which deity do you worship?   Originating from the Theonic religion, which features a pantheon, it was a way of identifying which god of the pantheon you specifically worshipped or inquiring about the god others worshipped, as many would only worship one or two of those gods. Thus, your patron god became the deity you worship, or if you are a mage, your patron god is the deity that grants you part of its essance and hence your power.   Alternatively, it can refer to the religion you worship However, using the term in this context is less common, as people often assume your religion based on your nationality.   While the term is used throughout Talrak, it is most commonly associated with mages explaining whom they worship and derive their power from, or in nations/religions that worship multiple gods, such as Fehadla, where they both worship a plethora of gods and mage are common. The term can be shortened to just "patron" given there enough context.

History

The term was derived from the word "Pantak," meaning worship in Rakan. However, the term itself is believed to have been first used approximately 40 years after the birth in 1.40, when Mages became common and people began to worship divine beings once again.
