These workers provide a vital service in maintaining the roads that connect the various towns, cities, and kingdoms together. Their job mainly entails patching potholes, maintaining road signs, and reporting any potential threats such as bandits and dangerous animals.
It's not uncommon for them to come across bodies of those that were killed in a bandit ambush or mauled by a beast. The bodies and any goods are collected up and brought to the nearest town in order to be properly identified. If a family can't be found to claim the bodies and items, the items will be claimed by the government, and the body will be disposed of.
