Human 'Betta Fish' Culture
Culture
Common Dress code
Families tend to have their own styles and colors they decorate their sons with.
Common Taboos
Men are typically not taught to read or write, for their only duty to the family is to maintain their appearance so the family may be brought gifts and offered favors.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Some families are so strict about male appearances that male babies with any blemishes are either killed or given to the army after being castrated.
Gender Ideals
In most families men are seen as only good for dressing up and trading 'nightly access' for favors and goods with other families. While families try to keep their prized men in peak physical condition, they must be careful to keep them separated, for if they see one another they can get into massive fights.
Women on the other hand are in charge of running the family, businesses, etc. Those that give birth to many sons have more influence than those that only give birth to a few sons or many daughters.
Courtship Ideals
Young men are dressed in flowing, colorful clothes and decorated with luxurious jewelry and make-up. The richer the family the flashier the clothing and jewelry. Since a families' social standing is highly dependent on their men's appearance they will bring gifts and offer favors in exchange for one or more of their daughters to have access to another families' son for a night. Extremely extravagant and luxurious goods and favors may grant a daughter extra nights with another families' son
Relationship Ideals
Men and women are very separated in this culture and are rarely alone together. Since it can cost a family a lot to gain access to another families' man for a single night relationships between men and women are rare. If a women has luck bearing beautiful sons with a particular man, she may petition her family to arrange more meet ups between the two of them.
