Echoing Insanity

One wouldn't expect that a bite from such a small bat could be so dangerous and deadly, but on the rare occasion it is.

Transmission & Vectors

This disease can only be transmitted via the bite of a bat. Only a few species carry the disease, and those that do show no signs of having it. Being bitten by a bat is rare in the first place, so the disease is poorly understood.

Symptoms

The first symptom a victim may experience is a quiet ringing noise in their ears. As time passes this ringing will get louder and louder making it harder for the victim to hear or get any sleep. Eventually the ringing will be so loud that it sound like a roar, and the victim will be unable to hear anything except the the ringing.   As the ringing continues victims often get desperate to try and stop it. They'll cover their ears with ear muffs or try and block their ear canals with special wax. When this doesn't work and the symptoms escalate, victims often start clawing at their ears. If not restrained at this point they've been known to rip their ears off, and their are some reports of them clawing at the sides of their heads to the point that parts of their skull is visible.

Treatment

There is no known treatment for this disease due to it's rarity. Instead victims are restrained in the hopes that they'll snap out of their desperate clawing. Few, if any do, and typically the victim will either waste away or break out of their bounds and try to kill themselves.

Prevention

The only way to prevent this disease is to not get bitten in the first place. Few people even know of it's connection with bats, but those that do will wear thick leather gloves when handling bats.
