Carnivore Vine

A gnarled vine, the Carnivore Vine is a dangerous species of plant.

Basic Information

Anatomy

This large semi-mobile vine consists of a fibrous stem covered in stringy, brown bark. The main vines can extend up to 20ft and smaller vines can extend from the main vines. Their leaves bare a shocking resemblance to humanoid hands.

Biological Traits

This plant is not capable of moving from the place it has grown.

Genetics and Reproduction

From the smaller tendrils of the carnivore vine grows the small fruits they are known for. These fruits start as tough and bitter but as they ripen they become softer and sweeter. The best fruits comes from the plants with the most fertilizer. A certain species of bat doesn't trigger the plant's feeding response and are able to eat the fruits in piece. They'll then fly off and eventually poop out the seeds far from the parent plant.

Ecology and Habitats

This species is most common in swamps and dense forests however they are known to slowly encroach on fields and vineyards if not monitored.

Dietary Needs and Habits

An ambush predator, the Carnivore Vine will hold perfectly still while waiting for prey to walk past it. Once it detects movement the vine will ensnare the prey in its vines and begin to squeeze the creature to death. After the prey stops moving it will deposit the corpse by its roots, leaving the body to decompose and act like fertilizer. To hide the scent of death and attract future fertilizer the Carnivore Vine produces a tasty fruit that has a powerful sweetened fragrance.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The carnivore vine is a valuable plant despite the dangers it presents. Their fruit is highly sought after due to its sweet taste, and because of how dangerous it is to harvest it, is worth a lot. Political rivals also like the plant for its dangerous nature. They'll have a seed or seedling planted in a seldom visited corner of a rival's garden or greenhouse. If the rival has lazy or disgruntled gardeners they may find themselves within the visor-like grip of a carnivore vine anywhere from a few months to even years later.

Average Intelligence

Carnivore vines are not intelligent at all, and only react to changes within their environment.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

While it doesn't have the same sort of senses that an animal does, the carnivore vine is capable of sensing vibrations, and changes in light and heat.
