Personal history

Born and raised in the Firadas Prairie, Amber has been fascinated with the plants and creatures from a young age, frequently disappearing into the tall grass to explore, much to her parents horror. Despite their best efforts, her parents just could not keep her within the safety of the village. One day, at the young age of eight, she brought home an orphaned Prairie Jackal and managed to convince her parents to let her keep it.
Amber would often neglect her chores, instead heading out to the prairie, recording her observations of the various creatures she came across and drawing sketches of what she saw. This often angered her father, who worried about being able to afford food and medicine for his family, and he would scold her for wasting her time when the crops needed to be weeded and the livestock tended to.
This tension slowly built up until one day when she was 16, her father had brought her into town with him in order to sell goods at the marketplace. She was supposed to help watch their stall but got distracted by a small lizard instead, and started to sketch it instead of helping customers. At the end of his rope, Amber's father snatched the book from her hand and tossed it from the stall, furious that she was not taking her job seriously.
As the two argued, a scholar that was walking by picked up the book with the intent of returning it, when she caught a glimpse of one of the sketches within it. Paging through the book, the scholar was impressed with the amount of detail Amber had both written and drawn of the flora and fauna she had come across. The scholar then approached the father and daughter, and when she had their attention, made them an offer. She wanted Amber to become one of her students at the nearby college in order to be trained to become a professional naturalist, and was willing to sponsor the girl so the father didn't have to worry about the cost of sending her to college.
Knowing that his daughter would never be happy following his footsteps and would always be drawn to the wilds of the prairie, Amber's father agreed.
