'Royal Hunger'

At first when people began to disappear no one seemed to care. It was simply a beggar or orphan once every few months, no one that the guards could be bothered to look for. It wasn't until the son of a rich merchant disappeared that people began to worry.   The nearly adult boy had been last seen leaving the local tavern with several friends in the earlier hours of the morning. He had negotiated his first trade deal, and had been celebrating with many rounds of ale. When questioned all of his friends claimed the same thing, the boy had decided to take a short cut home, and left the group to do so. The guards retraced his steps, but there was no sign of him. His family feared the worst, and waited for the ransom letter to arrive. It never did.   Days turned to weeks, and there was no sign of him. Suddenly there was another disappearance, the wife of a noble. The city became a buzz of rumors, who was behind these kidnappings? The next couple of years followed the same cycle, someone disappeared, usually a noble or rich merchant, and no ransom letters ever arrived. The guards worked around the clock, and patrols in the residential area increased, but the disappearances continued.   Around the same time reports of some kind of shadowy beast was being reported within the city. Citizens reported catching glimpses of some kind of large beast moving quickly through alleys and over roofs, but the guards ignored these rumors. There was no way a beast of that size could be living within the city.   Things came to a head one stormy night. Security had increased at the castle, so all assumed that the young princess was safe in her room. Patrols passed by her room frequently and all seemed peaceful that night. One such patrol had just passed her room and was on their way down the stairs when a crash was heard from her room. The guards raced back up the stairs and down the hall to her room. Bursting through the doors they were greeted with the horrifying sight of the princess's legs disappearing down the gullet of a beast. Before them stood a Lure Dragon, a creature that was native to the other side of the continent, but not here. The guards tried to strike down the small dragon to rescue the princess, but it managed to scramble out of the open window and into the night. Since then the city has lived in fear of the dragon that they now called 'The Royal Hunger'.
