Thylodis

Thylodis sits on the coast of Andarrea bringing in many exotic resources from the sea and the Sword Coast. Gold flows as much as water in Thylodis, but never let that fool into thinking that the folks there don't want coin. They are just as likely to cheat you out of your coin purse as they are to give directions to the nearest town.

Structure

Due to its trade centered ways, it is the merchants that build the economy and thus wield a significant amount of power. The government itself is little more than a merchant oligarchy. The laws and taxes of Thylodis are decided by the richest merchants. The ever-shifting market tends to move people in and out; however, it also encourages bad trade practices for those who want to stay in power.

Public Agenda

Thylodis has little care for gaining more territory and desire good trading relationships with all of the nations of Andarrea. They only request that they be freely allowed to trade throughout the land, and any interference to do so will not be met with by military force, but with extreme tariffs on your nation.

Assets

Thylodis sits on a wealth of valuable items. From the sea, they pull in a large amount of food, as well as luxury items such as pearls. The nearby mountains provide many valuable mundane items like coal, copper, iron, but most of all gold. The forests of Thylodis are also harvested and shipped off as timber or used to build ships and wagons to fuel their merchant empire.

History

Thylodis rose from the ruins of an ancient empire whose name has been lost over the years. Starting out a fledgling nation, the first major discovery for this nation would a large wealth of gold within the Lowly Mountains. It was with this gold that the small nation began to spring up. With their newfound income, they began buying land from nearby nations and gaining more and more resources.
During the war with the Darkness, Thylodis used its vast resources to supply the numerous armies with iron and food. They also perfected the craft of shipbuilding during this time and their naval vessels helped bombard enemy forces from the nearby rivers. Following the conclusion of the war, Thylodis consolidated the resources they had and began helping the other nations rebuild. This led to a lot of money being borrowed from Thylodis. Some of the debts are still being paid back to this day.
In the year 255 AYD Thylodis was invaded by Urram  which was currently under control by the Drow. Thylodis immediately hired some mercenaries to help them defend their borders but their northernmost lands were taken. They were also part of the joint task force of nations that would push the Drow out the surrounding nations and end the enslavement of the Dwarves. Since then, Thylodis has enjoyed relative peace and riches. The only threat that Thyldois has had to deal with in recent times is the terrorist organization known as The Red Fist

Foreign Relations

Thylodis maintains healthy foreign relations with just about every nation in Andarrea with the exception of the Northern Grasslands tribes. This is mostly due to the fact that they are largely disorganized and Thylodian caravans often fall prey to raiding parties of natives.

Agriculture & Industry

Thylodis is home to many Iron mills, shipyards & Lumber mills.

Trade & Transport

The primary means of transportation for Thylodis is by means of caravans. However, if roads prove to be too treacherous they will either go by river or sea. They also use large merchant vessels when trading with the Sword Coast.
