Iftin

The Flying City

Iftin is the legendary flying city of Visn. Housed inside of it are a myriad of technical marvels ranging from advanced firearms to clockwork automatons. It is here where the inquisitive, intelligent, and insane show off their creations to the world.

Demographics

Iftin is a host for many of the more odd races that have trouble fitting in with normal society. While it has your normal run of the mill humans, elves, etc. It also plays host to many tieflings, aasimars, and members of the aquatic races.

Government

The city of Iftin is ruled over by the The Conclave of Nethys.

Defences

For being small comparative to the cities Iftin is a forced to be reckoned with. Obviously the cities ability to fly is one of its largest defenses only certain airships are allowed access into the city. Should an army have the ability to magical fly the city surrounded by an anti-magic field powered by 13 massive Inferium Crystals that can only be turned on or off from the inside of the city. Each of these crystals is guarded by anti-aircraft and personal cannons. Additionally, the city also houses 4 airships 3 of which are corvettes, and the Northumbria, the first-ever airship to be classified as a destroyer. For on the ground defenses, each level of the city is assigned a guardian, an extremely powerful clockwork machine as well as it's own detachment of soldiers. As a final line of defense, the mountain that the city rests on has many tunnels and caves capable of protecting its citizens.

Infrastructure

Iftin is divided into 4 levels. The ground level is the oldest level in the city. This level does not exist on the floating mountain but rather below it. It mostly consists of mining and research facilities dedicated to researching Inferium. There also a few surrounding villages that count as being a part of the ground level that mostly consist of small farming and fishing villages consisting of mostly exotic races. Additionally, the ground level also consist of a landing strip for airships so they can ferry goods and citizens back and forth. The first level is located on the lowest portion of the mountain and is where a majority of the population is housed as well as many of the shops. The second level is just above that and is known as the Research District. As the name implies it here where many attempt to learn and unravel the mysteries of magic and science. This level contains several research labs, universities, and workshops. The main government building is as well as the police headquarters is located in this district. The third and top-level is where much of industry lies. On the third level, there are factories dedicated to the manufacturing of smaller airships, production of firearms and clockwork soldiers, and refining of Inferium.

History

Iftin's history is tied in heavily with Visn. Shortly after the The Inquisition of Axis banished many of the scientists and magic wielders they ended up at the southernmost end of the Lowly Mountains. It was here they established what later be known as the Ground Level. Here they began to harvest and experiment with Inferium, but it was not until two years after that the experiments finally bore fruit when they discovered a deposit of massive Inferium Crystals. They were then able to attach this crystal to one of the smaller mountain peaks and lift it before attaching the remaining crystals to the base of the mountain, lifting it into the sky. The city was far from away from its troubles though. Short after achieving flight, The Inquisition of Axis invaded the city in which they were able to hold firm. Despite getting through two crises the city still had no clear leadership. As a result, the city was divided into several factions (Which would become the basis of each level) based around groups of coworkers and other interested scholars. Without any governing body, most groups began diving into many of the experiments that there were banished for including things such as alternative ways to lichdom, manufacturing of deadly disease, and demonology. Things got out of hand pretty quickly and with demands coming in form the other nations to get a handle on it something had to be done. In the end, the group that ran the first Inferium experiments and the group responsible for rallying a defense aginst the Inquisition came together to form The Conclave of Nethys.

Tourism

Its coastal location and it's close access to Thylodis make it a prime traveling location for nobles from Thylodis and adventurers from the Sword Coast. Although, access to the city is often restricted unless there is a government official or an ally of the city that can vouch for you.
