Since the last engagement between the Humans and Elves their had been little interaction between the two races. A while after The Battle of Three a hawk arrived in Yarrin with a scroll addressed to the leader of the Humans, requesting a meet to discuss a new arrangement...

Yarri read through the scroll which spoke of the losses both sides had suffered, it did its best to avoid blaming the Humans but was still aggressive in its request for a meet. The Elves had lost a lot in the recent years, but they knew if it came to all out war they would likely win eventually. But King Loridiel had no desire for more fighting and pushed away the High Mages who were advising him to continue the war.   The proposed location was The College, the Elvish built compound that was full of the brightest and some of the most powerful Elves in the world. They officially had no involvement with politics but many members still fought for the Crown when asked to. Yarri was unsure about the location as it would be certain death if the Elves decided to ambush them, so he opted for a measure to avoid it. In the last couple of years some of the best Human craftsmen had been working on large weapons of war capable of aiding in the capture or destruction of a town, city or castle. Such a weapon had recently been made into a prototype - the trebuchet.   Yarri sent word back to the Elves that he was willing to meet with the Elvish King at The College. Yarri questioned the Elf as to how he knew their language, since the Elves had their own. Loridiel explained that many Elves study several languages as they grow up, and the long lives of the Elves allow for much learning. Loridiel had, as a child, learnt the language of the Northern races, the language of the Frostkin was much less refined that the Humans, who are supposed descendants.   The meet began and the two leaders met and discussed the future of both races, the plan started to form that the Humans would live in the region around Yarrin, in the area later to become The Eastlands and the Northern part of The Monarchlands. In addition the North of the continent would be allowed to have Humans, as long as the Elvish town of Tris Dorne was left alone, as well as the towns of Ecrin and Erast. The Humans in return would allow Vaes Dor and Pran to remain under Elvish control, as well as trade the crops they had been growing, as farming was a skill the Elves excelled at. Yarri agreed that the Humans could have peace, but needed assurances on the use of magic against them, he wanted Humans placed at The College to learn about the use and weaknesses of magic. The Loridiel promised Yarri this was not needed and instead proposed an offering, it is disputed by some as to what exactly was given to Yarri but most recollections describe a crooked piece of wood that Yarri was promised would make sure the Humans would not need to fear magic.   Loridiel left to think over the decision, he met with several of his advisers, many of whom reminded him of the mage force ready to fight if needed, but then word came of this new, massive weapon that the Humans had set up near The College. Loridiel went to Yarri and accused him of dishonour but Yarri explained he was simply evening the field, as he was certain there would be mages waiting to strike if given the order. Loridiel realised that the two races were both equally scared of the other, and the two leaders were equally worried about the safety of their people. Loridiel accepted the terms of peace and left, ready to face his angry advisers.
