Blackbane

The Blackane, or the Dark Blight, is contracted when one comes into contact with an area touched by the Darkness. While infected, any damage you do with spells is halved, as well as their duration. When you force a creature to make a saving throw against one of your spells, it does so with advantage, and when you make a spell attack you do so with disadvantage. Additionally, whenever you cast a spell, you take damage equal to ten times that spells level. If the spell is a cantrip, you take 5 damage. These effects occur in half measure if you are casting through magic item.
There is no known cure for the Blackbane, and thus it has lead to the premature end of many promising mages careers.
