Pendulum Hill

History   Pendulum Hill, located in the wilderness of Brem, is a place steeped in dark history and magic. Centuries ago, it was the site of a notorious trial and execution that forever altered the relationship between witches and humans. The Witch of Names, a powerful seer and spellcaster, was accused of malevolent sorcery by the fearful inhabitants of Brem. She was said to possess the ability to know an individual's true name and thus hold immense power over them. The trial was swift, and she was sentenced to hang from a giant oak tree atop the hill. As she swung from the makeshift gallows—pendulum-like—the skies darkened, and a curse was laid upon the hill, marking it as a place of sorrow and enmity. The event was the catalyst for a widespread rift between witches and humans, igniting generations of conflict and mistrust.   Haunted Classroom of Pendulum Hill   In the heart of Pendulum Hill, Wistross has established a unique classroom known as the 'Haunted Classroom of Pendulum Hill.' This classroom, nestled within the shadows of the infamous Hanging Oak, serves as a powerful reminder of the dark history that permeates the hill. Students are brought here for advanced lessons in witchcraft, necromancy, spirit communication, and the study of curses.   The room itself is shrouded in eerie, magical energy, with ghostly apparitions occasionally manifesting to observe the lessons. The air tingles with residual magic, making it an ideal location for rituals that require a potent connection to the spirit world. The classroom is built around the ancient gallows, with the Hanging Oak's massive branches providing an ominous canopy.   Within the classroom, students sit at desks carved from the fallen wood of the Hanging Oak, and the instructor’s podium is positioned where the witch once stood trial. The atmosphere is heavy, laden with sorrow and powerful magic, allowing students to better understand the consequences of wielding such forces. Here, they learn to respect the delicate balance between life and death and the dangers of naming magic.   Notable Landmarks   Notable landmarks include the Hanging Oak, an ancient, gnarled tree with remnants of the original makeshift gallows still attached to its massive branches. At the base of the hill lies an overgrown pathway known locally as the 'Trail of Sobs,' named for the mournful wails that seem to emanate from the very ground upon which it is walked. Another key feature is the 'Circle of Names,' a clearing surrounded by standing stones inscribed with ancient runes and the true names of those who perished in connection with the Witch of Names.
