The Darklink

Summary

Darklinks stride in the night, waiting and watching. If in the Pelor's Light they will never find you but go too deep into the dark and they won't let you leave again. In the shadow's of deep caves and entrances into the deep, they wait for the foolhardy and stupid.

Only their friends can pass them, and their allies will not remember them but they wait and watch for your mistake. Darklinks will only show you their pearlescent teeth, and the bright poisonous emerald eyes once it's already too late.

Venture out and wander and you will never be found as the darklinks will grab you in the shadows to never to be found again, for the unlucky who run they will run you to the edge of the cliffs and you will fall...

Spread

The origins of this tale are veiled in mystery, however, it is regarded as a truth to many of halfling villages and towns of Tarf along the border of the Scaron mountain range. This has only been furthered by consistent disappearances and mysterious accidents that appear in caves and Underdark entrances. Whilst investigations have found no evidence of the supernatural creatures it has caused fear in the Halfling and some of the dwarf populations in the area.

The main version of the tales comes from the area around the Forgen Gorge where travellers began to hear strange noises and swear they saw shapes in the shadows cast by the sheer Blackstone cliffs.

Variations & Mutation

One of the darker variations, that many people have put down to scaremongering and racists. Is known not as the Darklinks but as the Drow Dogs. This version blames the disappearances and deaths on the Dark elves of the Underdark defending their territory and ensuring that the toll to use the underpass is paid. It states that the creatures are able to be controlled by the Dark Elf mages and are sent out to ensure the tolls are paid and to ward off explorers and adventurers from venturing to deep into areas they are not welcome.
