Giants

Giants come in various types which the uninitiated think of as being different species, whereas in fact they all form a single species, separated by the ordnung of the giants.
Giants are innately tied to law, which forms part of their very being, and is why they are so tied to their ordung.  This gives them a solidity and presence - they are literally more 'real' than the world around them.  For this reason, giants have memories which can remember every slight and every favour they owe and are owed.  The friendship of a giant is rarely won, but when it is, it will last forever.  An oath sworn by a giant will always be fulfilled, for good or woe. When a giant dies, its actions in life determine what type of giant it is reborn as. Thus through many lives, giants may love up and down the ordnung as they learn from the consequences of their actions. The oldest of giants therefore are amongst the wisest of mortals for they have lived many lives and fulfilled many passions. The most common of the giants that most people know of are the dwarves, who many people don't even realise are giants, but are actually one of the lowest ranks in the Ordnung. The giants seem to have originated in the far north, but have spread far south, especially in mountainous and remote areas.
