Dryads

Dryads are a subset of Nymph and are part of a tree that can take on a bipedal humanoid shape or exist as one with the tree. They are magical, faerie, inherently able to create illusions and create/manipulate plantlife, and often secretive. Dryads are known to live in bunches, as Dryads' trees can produce other Dyads (or not), and they are known to be a social lot.
Humanoid forms shapes and figures depend on the tree, colors change with seasons or weather, including balding during winter seasons when appropriate. Pine trees will be tall and sturdily built with short wild hair and gray skin; ash will be pale white with long dark green hair; baobabs are short and heavy and often have long, dry hair.
A dryad can only travel so far from her tree, or grove, should she develop a full grove. Depending on the magic of the tree, the dryad, and the area, a dryad will begin to feel sick in as little as ten feet, or as much as five hundred.
A dryad may be born of a tree independently of any other Dryads, should a sapling take on enough faerie magic to manifest one. As the tree reaches maturity, it'll produce the dryad, who will have been gestating during the tree's development. Once she's ready, she'll form outside the tree in her full humanoid form as an adult with a fairly familiar sense of how the world works on a practical level (she's been one with the trees, and aware, and trees experience a lot.)
When the tree flowers, it's ready to reproduce, and it's up to the dryad to find a male to fertilize herself with (thus the rampant bullshit about promiscuity), and, once she's successfully collected enough "pollen", she goes back to bond with her tree and thus make an attempt at fertilizing the flowers.   She can do this with just about anything she wants to, it's going to produce a dryad. Dryads take after their tree parent, regardless of genetic input from anything else, and no matter what kind of "pollen" it was (this includes, but is not limited to, eggs from species that produce them similarly; magical imprints from Echoes ; and basically, it's whatever is transferred during reproduction in whatever species. However you contribute, that's what she's looking for.
When the tree fruits and produces fruit, the dryad can, if she so chooses, deliberately plant the seeds she harvests. There are benefits and losses to planting more trees. The more trees you have, the further out you can go. However, the more spread out your magic, the weaker it is.
Another dryad can come from a dryad's tree, as well. This is not guaranteed, and I can't remember what the cat said about likelihood, but if it does not, then the dryad now has backup tree for living in, and a second tree to try and reproduce from.
There is no biological distinction between dryad sexes, and non-females are extremely uncommon. Any gender distinction tends to get lost amongst the silliness of it all. Default pronouns and honorifics are feminine, as all the trees are females.
